Book Talks Moderated by Our Cinnamongirls
Moderated by Miss Jasmine Edwards
Love of all kinds–self-love, romantic love, love of family and heritage–takes center stage in this conversation between two renowned YA authors, Misa Sugiura and Abigail Hing Wen, moderated by Jasmine Edwards, an alumna of Cinnamongirl, Inc., and will be on her way to Spelman College this Fall.

Jasmine engages our impassioned authors about being of color and growing up as immigrants in America. Jasmine inquires about legacy, parental expectations, and how their personal experiences have impacted their writing and the stories they’ve told. Both authors grapple powerfully with the truths and milestones of growing up and growing into yourself. A fantastic talk led by one of our own.
Moderated by Miss Khepera Lyons-Clark
This empowering, informative program, moderated by Khepera Lyons-Clark, graduate of Bentley School and Cinnamongirl Cohort 2019, is the young-adult complement to BABF’s robust Voting Rights Program, a centerpiece of the Bay Area Book Festival's 2020 virtual programming in response to this year’s hugely consequential election and the challenges posed to voting rights due to COVID-19.

Aimed at teens who will be first-time voters in 2020, this panel features bestselling National Book Critics Circle Award winner Carol Anderson with the YA edition of her seminal book One Person, No Vote; award-winning author Liz Rusch with You Call This Democracy?, and author and journalist Jeff Fleischer with Votes of Confidence: A Young Person’s Guide to American Elections.
Mindset of Leadership Speaker Series
Our Mindset of Leadership talks are youth-led dialogues with experts of color. One-hour in length, the Cinnamongirls get their questions answered and are hopefully inspired and motivated to seek more information about these topics. We believe that the more we expose our achievers to a breadth of perspectives and topics, the more informed they will be, building a strong foundation for a successful life.

Some of the topics:

All of our talks will be uploaded to Cinnamongirlinc, our YouTube channel. However, if you have a young girl who’d like to attend, simply email us and we will enroll her in the talk. Our Mindset of Leadership Speaker Series are open to all young girls.
