Special Pre-Pesach
Learning Program
On April 9th TABC held a very special after school program.  We were joined by Rabbi Daniel Kalish, the head of the Waterbury Yeshiva, accompanied by a number of his talented students.  What followed was an unbelievable two and half hour evening. Rabbi Kalish spoke about how Pesach is a time to remind ourselves that we can make changes in our lives and that we should never feel stuck.  After some more words of Torah were shared the guitars came out, as everyone enjoyed many beautiful songs, not just "Tatty My King". As the TABC students played and sang alongside the Waterbury students, you could almost feel the holiness in the room.  It was then time to eat as Holy Schnitzel was brought in and it truly felt like a seudas mitzvah. Often when food is served at after school programs it signifies the end of the program but on this night it was just a dinner break. Immediately after everyone ate, there was more singing and Rabbi Kalish spoke once again.  He gave a beautiful insight as to why the Matzah is supposed to touch the marror and discussed how we have the ability to overcome whatever marror we may have in our lives.  It was truly an inspiring and meaningful evening, which was well-timed, as we prepare for Chag HaMatzot. TABC Presents Bare Witness to
Packed, Enthralled Crowd
In September of 2018, the students who entered Cary Reichardt's classroom for Holocaust Studies had no idea what they were stepping into. When she described to them that beginning immediately after Sukkot, they would be immersed in a very interactive and important project, they could never have predicted where they would end up. When Rebecca Lopkin began co-teaching the group twice a week for several months, they enjoyed the "warm-ups" and dramatic exercises that she did with them. As the days progressed, they began to meet with Holocaust survivors. Watching the students immersed in their stories, listening, writing notes in their journals, and asking profound questions, was inspirational. Visiting the museums and seeing the displays and artifacts, enabled the students to  better visualize much of what they had heard from the survivors.

Learning about the history of antisemitism in Europe, what life was like for the Jews of Europe before the war broke out- a world which was destroyed by the rise of Hitler and his Third Reich, was essential for them to understand what they were about to "step into." Reading and writing about the Nazi plan for Europe's Jews, known as the Final Solution, convinced them all that they had been entrusted with a sacred task.

After Mrs. Lopkin taught them the "basics" of writing a script, the difficult work began. Countless homework assignments to write scenes in each survivor's story, many hours in the classroom, with both teachers guiding them further, in order to revise and enrich those scenes. Students working in teams on one character's portion of the script at a time...and that all took place from October through January!

And then came the most challenging, frightening and grueling part of it all- working on how to dramatize all that they had heard, seen and processed. Some students quickly volunteered to portray a certain character, while others required a little bit of "coaxing." All of them were nervous and fearful that they wouldn't do the survivors  and their stories any justice. Thursday night, as everyone in the audience can attest to, these students and their teachers not only did the survivors justice, but inspired everyone in the audience. Fourteen TABC seniors have been transformed into witnesses who will carry the survivors' message of "never to forget" throughout their entire lives! For more photos, click here.

TABC Team Excels in
Multiple Math Leagues
The New Jersey Math League results for the year came out this week. TABC placed first among all New Jersey yeshiva high schools, fourth overall in Bergen County and 27th out of over 180 schools in New Jersey. Mikey Schwartz was one of only eight students in the state to earn a perfect score!

This coming Sunday, the team is off to Yale University for the MMATHS Competition, along with their coach Mrs. Dassi Silverman.
TABC's Israeli Café
In celebration of completing the Hebrew unit about food and how to order food in a restaurant, 11G and 11R classes hosted an Israeli Cafe event where they made fresh Israeli food, including Israeli salad, french fries and fresh hummus. This was another opportunity to bring some Israeli culture to our students and start the preparation for Yom Haatzmaut next month.

TABC Blood Drive
TABC hosted another highly successful spring blood drive on April 11th. This year we surpassed all previous blood drives. Students, faculty, and walk-ins from the community comprised the donors. We also had representatives from "The Gift of Life" program swabbing peoples cheeks. Local eateries generously donated food for the staff and many TABC student volunteers. Thank you to the following eateries for their very delicious and generous contributions: Chickie's, Chopstix, Dougies, Dunkin Donuts, EJ's Pizza, Maadan, Poppy's Bagels, and Sammy's Bagels. And thank you to the following students for volunteering their time: Daniel Deschino, Avi Gold, Avi Stuart, Netzach Schuman, Natan Mendelson, Max Schechter, Moshe Dergel, Ariel Berner, Yoni Zirman and Itai Hudes. We look forward to our next Chanukkah blood drive. For more photos, click here.

10G Chemistry
Students in Mr. Dietz's chemistry class came to the Makerspace to work on bringing chemistry ideas to life in a hands-on way! The main idea they explored was that a mole (6.022 x 10^23) of air molecules takes up 22.4 liters of space at standard temperature and pressure. How big do you think 22.4 liters is?

First, students calculated the dimensions of a box that could hold 22.4 liters. Then, they used digital design software to plan out all 6 sides of their boxes. Afterwards, Mr. Tiefenbrunn helped them use the laser cutter to cut wooden panels of the exact sizes they needed, with precisely cut finger joints so the panels would fit together! Once all their pieces were cut out, students had a blast using wood glue to put their boxes together. They were surprised at how small the boxes came out, as they don't look like they could really hold 12 two liter soda bottles! The students loved this merging of chemistry class with design and engineering!
Freshman Chesed Day
The freshman class split up into 3 different locations for their chesed day. One group headed to Monsey Chesed 24/7 where the boys helped label and pack care packages for local hospitals. They also helped organize the huge warehouse in New Square. The second group headed to Daughters of Miriam for Shacharis and breakfast with the residents. The TABC students delighted the crowd with their pre-Pesach music and the freshmen led by Rabbi Berman brought the ruach by dancing with the residents. The last group went to NJ Food Pantry where they sorted the donated foods and packed the food for deliveries all across the state of NJ. Each student had a different taste of chesed with a real hands on experience. Thanks to Rabbi Dovid Einhorn, Rabbi Ezra Stone, Mr. Chanan Strassman and Rabbi Jake Berman for leading the trips. Four TABC Students to Spend This Summer at Yale University's
Tikvah Institute
The Tikvah Institute's Summer Program for High School students is held annually at Yale University.  The highly competitive intellectual program focuses on Judaism and Modernity.  We are proud to announce that four of our juniors, Ephraim Helfgot, Yishai Rosenberg, Michael Schwartz and Yoni Weinreich have been accepted to the prestigious program for the summer of 2019.  University-style seminars will be taught by leading academic, political, and religious scholars and practitioners, drawing upon the riches of the Western and Jewish tradition to consider some of the great dilemmas of the modern age. Students from Jewish schools across the country apply to this program and TABC is proud that we will be having four of students in attendance.
TABC Alumni Dinner at YU
Draws a Crowd
One could feel the electricity in the air.  More than sixty alumni and more than ten administration and faculty joined the seventh annual alumni reunion at YU.  It was an extraordinarily special event where alumni and staff were able to reconnect and recharge the warm relationships.  Rabbi Adler and Rabbi Yablok offered Divrei Torah which celebrated the gathered alumni continued love of and commitment to Torah and Mitzvot.  Rabbi Jachter, in turn, thanked Ariel Forman '16 and Daniel Levy '16 for incredibly successful efforts they made to create this outstanding event.  It was truly heartwarming to see our alumni feel so happy and still so connected to TABC!

Economics Class Hears from
"The Suit Lady" Naomi Klinger
The corridors of TABC were bustling more than usual last week, as paparazzi rushed to greet the special guest celebrity speaker for the senior elective Introductory Economics classes entering the building.
Why was the renowned "Suit Lady", Naomi Klinger, whose appointment list this time of year, is jam-packed, taking much time from her ever-busy schedule to hang out in TABC?

The only thing more important to Naomi than her business, is her family. She had promised her sister-in-law Cary Reichardt, instructor of this important course, that she'd make the time to speak with students before their Pesach break and she would never disappoint family!

When she entered Room #1, for the first session with the Introductory Economics class, Naomi looked at her sister-in-law and exclaimed, "This is going to be a piece of cake as most of them are my customers!" Virtually the same thing happened the next period, when the second section of the course entered for their class period.

Since at this point in the year, the curriculum of the course focuses on entrepreneurship and what the essentials of business planning are, who better to speak to our students than a success story, who happens to run her business in Teaneck... and California, and South Jersey, and New York, and more!

Naomi began by tracing her "business-sense" roots, and then moved on to key concepts such as name recognition, branding, economies of scale, and customer relations. As she spoke, the engaged and inspired faces of the students in the room, convinced their teacher that she had made the right decision in asking the "Suit Lady" to visit her classes. Naomi's talk ended with a Q and A and the most important advice: "Find what you know and care about, go with that, and with Hashem's help and mazel, you will succeed in life."

As the period ended, students received their promotional souvenirs- the famous Suit Lady suit-bag! Kol hakavod to Naomi for giving up the free time, which is almost non-existent, and sharing her advice and knowledge with our future TABC entrepreneurs.

Freshmen & Senior Mentors
Enjoy Breakfast Together
Today the Freshman were treated to a special breakfast along with their senior mentors. The goal of this breakfast was to catch up and check in on how the freshman are doing. While the freshman and senior mentors were enjoying bagels, cream-cheese, butter, chocolate milk and iced coffee Rabbi Finkelstein posed a question for each group to discuss. This question of how we define success led to insightful conversations. As the seniors finish up their classes next week this was a great way for the freshman and senior mentors to continue to build on their relationships.

College Guidance
Binghamton University Accepted Students Breakfast

On Wednesday, morning, April 10th Binghamton University held a special breakfast for those TABC students who have been accepted to their school. Nataly Weiss, a former OU-JLIC educators at the university, and now our admissions representative, greeted the boys with some general information about Binghamton before discussing Jewish Life on campus. The presentations were followed by a question and answer period.

Sophomore Parents Guidance Program

On Tuesday night the school's Guidance Department had the pleasure to meet with parents of tenth grade students. The program demonstrated TABC's philosophy and desire to work as a unit to serve the needs of our students. The program began as Rabbi Ezra Wiener, Judaic Studies Principal and Director of Israel Guidance, discussed religious guidance with the parents and how we work with every student to help with his religious development. Rabbi Steven Finkelstein, Director of Guidance, talked about how to discuss various issues with students and how we all work together to enable our students to grow and develop. Dr. Garry Katz, Director of College Guidance, outlined the college guidance process and talked about what colleges are looking for in a student and about standardized testing. Dr. Atlas, Director of Student Support Services, discussed the issue of students needing various accommodations and how to try to level the playing field for all students. The program serves as a continuation of the discussions we have already had with our sophomore students.
TABC to Make Yom Ha'Atzmaut Siyum with IDF Unit
With gratitude to Rabbi Zev Reichman and Rabbi Daniel Fridman for bringing this project to TABC, we are pleased to announced that TABC will be making a siyum with a unit in the IDF. The two groups will be splitting the learning on Massechet Brachot, and joining together digitally to make the siyum.

TABC is the first yeshiva to be partaking in this project, the goal of which is to ensure spiritual growth of chayalim currently serving in Tzahal.

As Rabbi Yaron Levy addressed the students about this project, he spoke about how the soldiers take their precious down time, even when they're exhausted, to learn Torah for even 5, 10, or 15 minutes per day. This represents a true mesirat nefesh on behalf of the soldiers, who put in long, active, and intense days.
STORM Report
Storm Clobbers Kushner Cobras

The Varsity Soccer team dominated from start to finish in a 7-0 win over the Kushner Cobras. Kushner was able to hold the Storm scoreless for a majority of the first quarter until Natan Rifkind '20 deposited a perfectly placed ball into the bottom left corner of the net to give TABC the lead with 30 seconds to spare. The Storm went into the locker room up 3-nil after beautiful link up play from Daniel Becker '20 to Menachem Kravetz '20 and a second goal from Rifkind. In the second half, the seniors got in on the fun. Daniel Deschino '19 and Elior Dahan '19 added on to the rout, while Rifkind continued his stellar performance setting up Uri Gulich '20 for two goals of his own. Avraham Kahan '19 denied the Cobras all night in goal. Kushner elected not to play the rest of the 4th quarter and the Storm emerged victorious. TABC will host SAR next week as part of a JV-Varsity doubleheader before heading into the Pesach break.

Captain Keiser Leads as Storm Slaughters Rams

Storm Baseball is heading into the Pesach break 3-0 after cruising to a 12-0 blowout over the Ramaz Rams. The game started more than 30 minutes late due to a malfunction with the field lights, but just as the teams were readying to head home, there was light- and then there was ball. The Storm took an early lead out the gate after a two run RBI single from Sammy Greenberg '19. Then in the top of the 2nd, Aharon Weiden '19 belted a solo homer out of the park to give the Storm a three run cushion. All night, the Rams bats had no answers to the Storm's star ace Yechiel Keiser '19. In the bottom of the 4th inning, with bases loaded and 2 outs, Keiser struck out the side. And in the following top half of the inning, the Rams were left to rue their chance. Keiser punished them once again, this time hitting a bases clearing RBI double, putting the game to bed. The Storm proceeded to add another six runs, and due to the mercy rule, the game wrapped up after only five innings. Keiser finished the night pitching four scoreless innings and gave up only three hits, fanning 10 batters. The Storm now enjoys a well-deserved break before taking on division rival Heschel at FDU next month.

TABC Baseball Bests JEC

Congratulations to TABC Storm Baseball on their resounding 11-0 victory over JEC this week.

Varsity Softball Defeats MTA in Rainy Season Opener

The Varsity Softball team kicked off their campaign in style, knocking off MTA in very difficult weather conditions at Sagamore Park. It only took one inning for the Storm bats to heat up, with RBIs from seniors Jonathan Haberman, Azi Lieber, and Joseph Segal to give the Storm a 4-0 lead. The Lions looked to catch up in the bottom half of that same inning, but thanks to two diving catches from outfielder Avraham Kahan '19, the Storm were able to strand runners in scoring position and hold their 4-1 lead. The floodgates opened in the 3rd inning when Joseph Segal '19 struck again, this time on an inside the park three run homer to give the Storm a commanding 7-1 lead. With 2 runners on base and the batter at the plate in the last inning, the Lions had the potential tying run on deck, but pitcher Eli Schloss '19 closed it out, clinching the 9-5 Storm victory. Special shoutout to team chefs Yonatan Katz '19 and Rafi Press '19 for grilling hot dogs for the entire team in between innings and to Coaches Tzvika Poleyeff '12 and our very own Mr. P. on a well-managed game!

STORM Varsity Softball Double Header Against SAR
