History shows that taking strong steps now to slow the spread of coronavirus will help communities and individuals. "An outbreak anywhere can go everywhere. We all need to pitch in to try to prevent cases both within ourselves and in our communities," said Howard Markel, M.D., Ph.D., the George E. Wantz Distinguished Professor of the History of Medicine and Director of the U-M Center for the History of Medicine.

IHPI Director and Professor of Internal Medicine, John Ayanian, M.D., M.P.P., recently joined a Michigan Medicine Facebook livestream on COVID-19 to address what we know so far about the Coronavirus and answer questions from the public audience. Social distancing is a tried and true preventive step in public health to slow the transmission of infectious diseases. David Hutton, Ph.D., M.S., associate professor of Health Management and Policy at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, discusses what we're likely to see with continued social distancing.

At a time when much of the population is practicing social distancing due to the spread of COVID-19, losing direct connection with friends, colleagues and extended family can exacerbate existing mental health concerns in an already stressful time. Alison Miller, Ph.D., M.A., an associate professor of health behavior and health education at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, explains methods for managing stress as well as who may be vulnerable to added mental health and stress impacts during this time.

David Miller, M.D., M.P.H., professor urology and chief clinical officer, University Hospital and the Frankel Cardiovascular Center, is part of the team of Michigan Medicine doctors who have been working daily to plan for the hospital's response to COVID-19.

Following Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's "stay home, stay safe" executive order on March 23, Miller shared his top three messages with the community.
