The City's proposed tax rate, 3.68 mils, remains the same as last year and is still one of the lowest property tax rates for a full-service city in Florida. For additional information, see the 2019 Taxes Explained Brochure or view the FY 2019-20 Proposed Budget.

Golf in Boca Raton
City Council reviews information on affordable course design

The City Council held a special meeting on Tuesday, August 27, to review r equests for information on Boca National Golf Course design. Due to concerns over the cost of the proposed new course being developed by the Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District (GBRBPD), the City issued a Request for Information (RFI) solely for information and planning purposes. The intent was to explore whether a high quality 18-hole course could be designed and constructed under $8 million dollars.

The City Council reached consensus to make a conceptual offer to the GBRBPD which includes a proposal for the City to design, build and operate an 18-hole golf course on the Ocean Breeze property on the west side of NW 2nd Avenue. The proposal also includes a clubhouse, driving range, maintenance facility and complimentary amenities. The City is also willing to consider designing, constructing and operating amenities on the east side of NW 2nd Avenue.

Details and agreements will have to be discussed at a joint meeting to be held on Thursday, September 12 at 5pm at 6500 Congress Avenue. The two agencies will continue their commitment and partnership to keeping golf in Boca Raton.

Does FL Home Rule Affect Issues that are Important to You?

Home Rule gives local government the power to decide which services our residents want and to solve problems locally. However, state lawmakers overrule cities by preventing us from making local decisions to better our communities.

Spotlight On Sanitation
In-house services to provide best quality for Boca residents

With over 50 employees, the City’s Sanitation Division is arguably one of the hardest working crews in town. They are awake and on their routes before most people’s alarms have even gone off. It doesn't take much imagination to envision what our lives would be like if garbage pick-up didn't happen for a week or two.

After considering the possibility of contracting sanitation services to a private hauler earlier this year, the City Council recommitted its support for expanding sanitation services -- that means new trucks, additional drivers and collectors, expanded maintenance and storage facilities and newer technology for safety and customer service.

Let's consider this past week as a dry run or dress rehearsal. If you haven't already, make sure your pre-storm plans are ready. We have a helpful checklist and resources on our website, like supplies, evacuation plans and more.
