NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS: WEST ROCK STREAM ACADEMY MURAL PROJECT  -West Rock STREAM Academy Interdistrict Magnet School (WRSA), a PreK-Grade 4 New Haven Public School located at 311 Valley Street, New Haven, CT, in partnership with the CT Schoolyards Program of Common Ground, is in the process of revitalizing their outdoor learning spaces to ensure their students have access to meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.  As part of the revitalization process, WRSA invites local artists to submit proposals for a large mural to be installed on the outward facing wall of one of the school buildings visible from Valley Street. The ideal proposal would be for an image or series of beautiful images that read both close up and from a long distance and inspire viewers to think about the potential for peaceful, joyous learning and children leading the stewardship of the natural world. The ideal proposal would also include the students of WRSA in some of the stages of the creation of this mural.  The dimensions of the entire exterior wall are approximately 33' long by 15' high. The panel within that measures about 33 by 8 feet.

Project Submission & Timeline: Proposals should be submitted by email to [email protected]  with the subject line: "WRSA Mural Proposal" no later than May 10th. Proposals should include the artist's resume, contact information, samples of the artist's work, a description and a sketch of the proposed project, and a supply list with prices. Consideration will be given to proposals that include all components listed. The mural should be completed and installed by June 18th. Artist's Honorarium: $1,000.00 (Supplies to be paid for separately by the CT Schoolyards Program).

LOCAL LIT OPEN CALL!
Submissions are currently open for our next event! Send us your pieces by Wednesday, May 1st to be considered for our next event. Guidelines and details can be found on our website locallitatlotta.com.
We look forward to reading your work!
Join us for an evening of great literature and thoughtful discussion. Bring your friends and fellow writers or readers - the more the merrier! There is a suggested donation of $5-$10, which helps to keep us running; light snacks and refreshments will be provided. If you'd like to be featured at this event or any of our future readings, check out the submission guidelines on our website: locallitatlotta.com.

THREE ARTIST RECONNECT AT KEHLER LIDDELL
April 10, 2019, The New Haven Independent, by Brian Slattery- "One figure reclines on the ground, head thrown back. The other hovers, impossibly, in the air above the first. Their only points of contact are the delicate hands of the one doing the hovering, and their lips, making contact. Julie Fraenkel's  The Visit is playful and poignant, and one of many highlights of   "Re: Connecting," a show at  Kehler Liddell Gallery  in Westville that finds, as the title suggests, works by three artists - Fraenkel, Liz Antle-O'Donnell, and Matthew Garrett - connecting with one another in formal, thematic, and emotional ways.  The show runs through April 21..." RE:CONNECTING ARTIST TALK + RECEPTION @KEHLER LIDDELL GALLERY

"Re:connecting," featuring the work of Liz Antle-O'Donnell, Julie Fraenkel and Matthew Garrett.

ABOUT THE SHOW: While meditating on the exhibition's theme, photographer Matthew Garrett states: "For me, Re:connecting is an aspirational concept. A dream - often unrealized - to share space with the people, places, and things that were once a regular part of my life, and are now more loosely bonded."
