Chinese New Year Celebration
The 2019 Chinese New Year, Year of the Pig, is coming
February 5
! The Pig symbolizes generosity,
diligence, trustworthiness, and good luck!
We have many exciting plans to celebrate this big event. As part of the celebration, Mandarin students in K-8 will present a stage performance at a school-wide assembly. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend. The assembly will be 1:30pm in the school gymnasium.
Mandarin students should plan to wear traditional Chinese clothing or red.
Since February 5 is the first Tuesday of the month, it will be a Formal Uniform Day for all other students.
We have also been able to coordinate a special lunch of chicken dumplings. Families interested in participating may order via
My Kids Lunch.
We need parents to help with our Chinese New Year! We are in need of a photographer, videographer, decorators, and supervision helpers. Please consider signing up to help.
Happy New Year of the Pig!

Half Day Kindergarten Dino Day!
As a reward for filling their marble jar, Half Day K students in Mrs. McLaughlin's AM & PM classes chose to have a science day full of learning about dinosaurs. They completed several science experiments and explored life-size replicas of some dinosaurs. Students had to find a way to release dinosaurs that were frozen in ice using only salt and a spoon. They continued their experimenting by releasing another dinosaur trapped in "rock" (baking
soda) by completing a chemical reaction (vinegar solution). They also completed a fossil dig using a paint brush.
When students explored life-size replicas, they learned that a Diplodocus dinosaur was approximately 75 feet long, which is the length of 20 Kindergarteners laying down. They learned that the average weight of a dinosaur egg was fifteen pounds, a triceratops footprint was larger than seven Kindergarten-sized feet, and the jaws of a T-Rex have a larger circumference then the size of Kindergartener laying down!
The students enjoyed having a day of science and discovery based on a subject of their choosing. SO FUN!
