NAETISL Inaugural Conference
A Clear Vision + Teamwork =
A Successful Inaugural Conference!

NAETISL Team, you did it! Our Inaugural Conference was a memorable event thanks to the dedication and efforts of our Board of Directors, our Founding Members and our Collaborators. Participants left energized and motivated to continue making an impact in our communities. Our Award Winners will be receiving their well-deserved gifts and awards this week! Thank you and check out this initial feedback:

  • Thank you for a great conference!
  • Thank you to all who organized this conference!

  • I cannot thank you enough for this amazing conference!
  • The opportunity to hear and share stories with others is the inspiration I need to keep going. I appreciate the reminders to practice and that we are making a difference in our communities. Thank you again.
  • Congratulations to Ms. Soler and all the NAETISL members who contributed to the success of a wonderful event. Well done!
  • Wow! I learned so much and feel like I'm part of a team. Thank you all.
  • So many good points and talking points!!! Excellent start to the NAETISL journey! :)
  • Look forward to many more.
  • I appreciate all the work members of NAETISL put into planning this conference. I look forward to read about plans for a national accreditation of interpreters in education, and while that becomes a reality, any new training will always be welcome.
  • This conference impacted me more than I expected. It's renewed my passion and pride in my work, to continue striving to improve.
  • Loved the conference. Just when I think I want to give up, the conference inspired me to keep going.
  • The inaugural conference was an excellent experience for me. It was wonderful seeing so many professionals that are so experienced and dedicated about their jobs. As interpreters and translators, it is our duty and responsibility to convey a message in a clear, accurate and caring way. All the participants showed that they care about the LEP families and they're passionate about what they do.
  • It was so useful, interactive and dynamic.

Voices From the Field
In this section, we highlight YOU, our emergent bilingual families, interpreters, translators and school representatives and the impact that clear communication had in your journeys.
Stephanie Destin-Clark (Language Arts Teacher, Los Angeles, CA):I think the work of interpreters in schools has not received the recognition it deserves. I don't see an interpreter as an "aid" but as a collaborator in my meetings."
Vince Kim (Emergent Bilingual Parent, Duluth, GA): “In my community, we don't like to ask for help. But I always tell my friends to ask for an interpreter because too much information is given. We don't want to miss any information."
Amy Lan (Special Education Interpreter, IL): The best way for me to improve on being a better interpreter is to know the vocabulary and to practice my note taking. When I first started, I practiced the educational jargon by writing it down and using it in sentences so the words would stick in my mind. It helped!"
