Happy holidays from the Gordie Center! We hope you are enjoying the festive atmosphere, and have time to recharge with your family. With so many special gatherings this month, we want to remind everyone to stay safe: drink mindfully by considering how each drink is affecting your mood, behavior, thoughts, and body, and always have a designated driver if you plan to consume alcohol. The memories we make this time of year are precious, and we all want to ring in 2019 safely, with happiness and joy for what the new year will bring!
Planning Ahead for Spring Semester
The spring semester brings annual prevention challenges, including spring break and the recruitment process for many fraternities and sororities. As you plan for your spring semester efforts, please check out the many products we offer in our GORDIEstore: the HAZE documentary about Gordie's story (a must-see for current chapter members before recruitment/rush), mirror clings and magnets with the PUBS signs of alcohol overdose (perfect for residence hall mirrors and refrigerators), posters detailing standard drink sizes, PUBS, and BAC charts (chapter houses and locker rooms are a great location for posters!), BAC cards with safety tips (great to include in Safe Spring Break packs and provide in your student health center), PUBS laptop stickers, posters for your campus bus system with PUBS information, and even a FREE printable brochure with safer drinking guidelines! We are proud to offer evidence-informed, student-tested products that spread Gordie's lifesaving message, and we can add your logo to many of our products!
2018 Gordie Center Reception
The annual fall reception for Gordie Center supporters was held on November 10th. We hosted over 50 friends and supporters, including Gordie's mother and step-father, Leslie and Michael Lanahan, in the Colonnade Club on the Lawn at the University of Virginia (UVA). Attendees were able to meet with our staff, talk with the Lanahans about Gordie's life and legacy, and hear remarks by the Gordie Center's director, Susie Bruce.

The Lanahans and Gordie Center staff so enjoyed sharing Gordie's story and our efforts with our supporters at the reception. After the event, the Lanahans attended a UVA football game in UVA President Jim Ryan's suite with Susie and Gordie Center National Development & Program Coordinator Jill Maurer. We are already looking forward to our reception in 2019!

If you missed Giving Tuesday, there's still time to make a tax-deductible donation to the Gordie Center before the end of 2018! Your donation saves lives by helping us combat hazing and alcohol overdose nationwide--carrying on Gordie's legacy. Please consider making a year-end donation today!

Until next month,

Susie Bruce,  Director, The Gordie Center
