VIRGINIA BEACH - As construction continues on the Laskin Road Bridge Replacement and Widening Project, travelers should expect changes to the traffic pattern in both directions of Laskin Road, just east of the bridge over Linkhorn Bay.
These changes will update how motorists enter and exit some properties in the area and will ultimately reflect the traffic configuration in this area for the remainder of project construction.
Starting as early as the week of July 26, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation will implement a new traffic pattern that allows left turns out of:
- The Linkhorn Bay Condominiums (traveling east toward the oceanfront); and
- The Virginia Beach campus of Norfolk Christian School (traveling west toward Hilltop).
Under the current traffic configuration, left turns are restricted from the above locations. Instead, motorists were required to turn right out of the properties and then make a U-turn to travel in the opposite direction.
Also as part of this change, westbound traffic -- through the addition of a turn lane -- will be able to turn left into the parking lot of Norfolk Christian.
The new traffic pattern, however, will not change how motorists on eastbound Laskin Road access the Linkhorn Bay condos. Because there is no dedicated left-turn lane in this location and to prevent queuing on Laskin Road, eastbound motorists wishing to access the condominiums will continue to travel eastbound and make a U-turn at Cardinal Road before traveling westbound to access the entrance of the property. Signs indicating "No Left Turns" will be installed to prevent motorists from turning left directly into the Linkhorn Bay Condominium property from eastbound Laskin Road.
Motorists traveling through the work zone should obey the reduced speed limit of 35 mph, at all times.
This work is weather-dependent, and the schedule is subject to change.
