Dear Saint Rose Families,

Yesterday the Saint Rose faculty had a two hour professional development session on two important topics.  The first was with Jeff Pellerito, Perrysburg's Assistant Director of Special Education.  Mr. Pellerito is often at Saint Rose to process IEP and ETR meetings for our students.  He gave an overview of the Response To Intervention process, or RTI.  Saint Rose uses RTI everyday to support the different learning needs of all of our students. It was a great reminder of what we do and what more can be done to support all of our students.

The second half of the program was brought to us through Mercy Health and Nurse Michelle Hill. Stop the Bleed is a program that trains people on how to best handle traumatic injuries.  Our teachers were trained how to use tourniquets and stabilize traumatic wounds in those few moments before EMS arrives. All classrooms will be stocked with tourniquets.  Trauma response kits will be stationed along with our AED machines and epi pen centers in the school.
Both sessions were meaningful and well done.

Sincerely,
Bryon Borgelt

Student Safety

Parents, this is a reminder that the Elm Street entrance is to only be used by families that park and walk their children into the school.  Parents cannot stop and drop their children off at Elm Street.  I have had parents tell me that children have been let out on the street and were almost hit by moving cars.  Please use the drop off line if you want to drop off your children.
The line moves quickly and we have faculty dedicated to making sure that it is safe.

Thank you!

A Note from the Cafeteria...

In an effort to fulfill our mission of getting back to making more things from scratch and serving less processed foods, please note the following menu changes:
  • The Meatball Sub is going to change to Meatballs and Marinara with Shredded Mozzarella and will be served with a Breadstick.
  • The Salisbury Steak day (Wednesday, April 17) is going to change Salisbury Steak & Mashed Potatoes with Cooked Carrots and Cornbread.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility!

LENT COLLECTION:   SHOES, SOCKS, MONEY

Last week Wal-Mart had clearance shoes for as low as $5-$7 a pair.  Hundreds of children will be thrilled to receive a new pair of tennis shoes at the Back to School Shoe Event at Saint Louis Helping Hands next August.

Could your family donate 1-2 pairs of new tennis shoes for low-income families in Toledo?   During Lent Saint Rose continues to collect new tennis shoes, new socks, and money (to be used to purchase shoes).

Thank you for your generosity!

Don't forget about 5pm Mass and the THOL Lock-In
THIS SATURDAY!

See you at Mass!

The success of THOL activities rests on the volunteer efforts of the parents.  We are so grateful for the hours that many parents have already expended with the goal of creating healthy, holy, and wholesome activities for the students.

On Saturday, April 13, the students will enjoy a LockIn at the Fort Meigs YMCA.  Many parents are needed to volunteer that night for the safety and enjoyment of the students.

HOLY THURSDAY

Children's Procession

There will be a special procession at the conclusion of our Holy Thursday Mass on April 18th.  When it is time to transfer the Eucharist to St. Joesph's altar we would like children in grades 1-8 to lead the procession and carry flowers for the altar.  If your child is interested, please CLICK HERE to register.  All participants will receive an email with complete instructions before next Thursday.  Mass starts at 7:00p.m  that night and is one of the most beautiful liturgies of the year!  You don't want to miss it!

Pilgrimage to Seven Churches

At the end of the  Holy  Thursday liturgy, the Blessed Sacrament is removed from the main tabernacle and "reposed" in a side tabernacle in remembrance of Jesus' arrest.  The Roman Missal states, "The faithful are invited to continue adoration before the Blessed Sacrament for a suitable length of time during the night, according to circumstance."

A Catholic custom in many parts of the world is to visit the altars of repose at  Seven  Churches.  In Rome, this is somewhat easy as there are over 300  churches in the city!

For the past two years, Saint Rose Parishioners gathered after our  Holy  Thursday parish liturgy for a prayerful  pilgrimage to six other  churches to pray at the altars of repose.  We are once again offering this opportunity.  We will pray at the Saint Rose altar of repose and then proceed on a planned route to the other  churches

What a wonderful opportunity for families to pray together and explore the churches in our deanery.     You may drive yourself in your own vehicle or carpooling will be available.  An estimated time of return to Saint Rose is 11:30 pm.  Sometimes participants pray at 3-4 churches and then need to return home.  There is flexibility.  Please contact Anne Brahier at [email protected]  if you are interested in participating.  Thank you.

Preschool Teachers Participate in Professional Development

The preschool team recently met with a trainer from the YWCA on Superhero Play in the Preschool classroom. The meeting included an open discussion about the pros and cons of superhero play and how to make it a constructive and a positive experience in the classroom. The team also  brainstormed ways to incorporate it across all learning domains and created a lesson plan!

New Saint Rose School in Ferrier, Haiti!

Rejoice, the new school is finished and being used at this very moment!

Construction was begun October 29 last year after St. Rose School in Perrysburg provided the money to buy a parcel of land.
The first day of classes was February 4 and has continued since, despite protests in other parts of the country.

Thank you to the students, parents, staff, and teachers again for all their compassion, love, and sacrifice.
Peace and all good,
Fidelis Rubbo

Hello Saint Rose Families and Friends,

We would like to hold another  Junior  Achievement(JA) Day at Saint Rose again this school year.  As you may know, the first JA Day held in the 2017/18 school year was a tremendous success.  What makes a program like JA so successful are the volunteers.  We will need your support once again.

JA lessons and content focus on money management, critical thinking skills, problem solving, and entrepreneurship.  The individual lesson plans are thoughtfully prepared and designed for each grade, K-8.  As a class volunteer educator, your job is to deliver the content to your class, in the permitted time.  If you've never taught a JA class, it's not difficult and I can tell you from several years of experience that it can be very rewarding, for the students and for you.

Our JA Day at Saint Rose is scheduled for Thursday, May 9th.  The time allotted will be from 9am - 11:30am or 12noon (depending on the grade taught).  There will be a training session for all volunteers, on a date yet to be determined, prior to May 9th.

If you would like to volunteer, simply send me an email, including the grade preference you'd like to teach, and we'll get you signed up.  Keep in mind that the sooner you sign up, the better your chances of getting the grade you'd like to teach.  The spots will fill up quickly!  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

**Please note: Volunteers need to have their Virtus completed**

Thank you very much for your consideration, your support, and your work in helping to make Junior Achievement  available to the students at Saint Rose.

Regards,

Aaron Skolmowski
