Greetings Pastors and Leaders!

If you are like me, you are ready for this ordeal to be over. From the looks of things, however, that may not be likely any time soon. The President has announced the continuation of social distancing until the end of April. That means churches are not going to be able to meet together for Easter for the first time in modern history. We are going to have to find new and creative ways to celebrate the resurrection this year. This will no doubt include online worship as many of you are already doing, but could also branch out into Drive-in worship, Drive through Lord’s Supper, or designing worship experiences for families to do at home. It still seems wise to continue to refrain from meeting together to avoid the risk of exposing others to the virus unknowingly. Nevertheless, we can celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and share that message with the world. He is risen whether we can gather or not!

One distressing issue through this crisis has been the growing sense of isolation among our people. I have heard it and felt it from my interactions with our own church members. How do we help people stay connected during a time of social distancing? More importantly, how can we continue to disciple people when we are not able to gather together? As one pastor recently put it, if you don’t figure new ways to disciple people, NetFlix will! (now that’s a scary thought). For that reason, we are hosting a webinar on Wednesday, April 1 from 11:00 am to 12 noon called “Combatting Isolation: Creating Connections through Small Groups.” It will be hosted by our own Eddy Pearson and Keith Durham and will feature a panel of pastors who are leading well in this area. We will deal with questions like, “How can online small groups strategically help with the isolation problem?” and “How is your church assimilating people who attend your online worship?” We must not become so enamored with producing online worship that we forget that our purpose is to connect people to God and one another through the church! Here is the link to the webinar. I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity!
