Dear Panther Community,

I want to first start with some thank yous to our students, staff, and the community.  During these challenging times I continue to observe everyone working hard and doing everything possible to make the best of this unprecedented situation.  Thank you to our staff who have created online classes where they did not exist before, working with students individually and in groups to continue the learning process. Thank you to our students for figuring out a "new normal", prioritizing academics while still meeting the needs of their family and other obligations. And, thank you to our parents for supporting and encouraging their children in a world with many unknowns.

We have made it to Spring Break and through our first two weeks of remote learning. The learning curve has been steeper for some than others, but overall, from what I have observed things are going well. During these last two weeks, teachers have communicated directly with their students to create a routine that allows for their success in accessing the curriculum.

The PVPHS staff continues to work very hard to create a schedule of classes that provides flexibility, which is so critical for our students at this time, while also avoiding conflicts with other classes.

If you are still unsure as to the requirements of your child's classes, I would suggest that you first go to the Teachers' page on our school website and then contact them directly if you need further clarification.

Starting after Spring Break, staff will be implementing the following flexible priority schedule. The goal is to maintain flexibility while creating consistency, reducing student stress, and increasing student access by lessening the number of overlapping classes.

We understand that each family has a different situation and challenges at home that could inhibit a student's access to a "locked in" time for instruction. With so many unknowns we felt as a school it was important to create a schedule that both gave priority to subjects while still maintaining a student-centered focus.

Utilizing the current testing schedule, each department will have priority on the following days:

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday

Thursday

Friday

World Language

Students should expect to be working on these classes during these days. However, teachers will also continue to be available other days of the week to provide support and ongoing access to curriculum. Teachers will be communicating directly to students any changes in scheduling that may be different from the previous two weeks.

Additionally, counselors have been working tirelessly to ensure continuity of support, from reaching out to students, to fielding questions, to ensuring scheduling for next year. If you or your student feel like you need additional support or resources, please go to the Counseling page on our website to complete the Counseling Request Form.

Panthers, this has admittedly been a strange two weeks with new routines, too many unknowns, and a lot of screen time. With Spring Break starting, I ask that you be patient with yourselves and give yourself a much-needed break. Try to get away from your screens and devices and spend (distanced) time with those you love. In talking with all staff members, we all want to be back on campus with you and miss you terribly.  Please continue to follow the recommendations of social distancing and staying at home so that we can be together again soon.

Go Panthers.

Sincerely,

Brent Kuykendall
