Hawthorne Valley Interim Learning Plan
Grade 7—Week of 3/30/20

Dear 7th Grade Parents and Students,

We are entering week three of our at-home learning. How’s it going? I hope everyone is healthy and managing to stay cheerful and engaged in life.

Attached are the assignments for the coming week. There are three lectures to listen to and some follow-up comprehension questions so that I can tell that the children have listened. The attached Notes on each subject are only for those who have difficulty listening—it is the same information as that presented in the lecture.

As it has become clearer that we are stuck at home longer, I encourage you to get your child more comfortable with google classrooms. It will allow them to keep track of the work more easily. The easiest way for me to look at drafts and submitted assignments and keep track of submitted work is when things are uploaded on Google classroom. It’s fine to email or text them, but if you are able to submit via google classroom, please do. Also, let me know if you need a paper copy of anything.

Recommended Schedule for the Week

Main Lesson

Monday (3/30)
· Recite Morning Verse, continue learning the two Shakespeare Sonnets—10 minutes
· Explore google classroom and how to log in. Try the typing club.
· Finish Old Book Work/Brochure.
· Optional: work on a drawing related to Ancient Explorers or Pytheus.

Tuesday (3/31)
· Recite Morning Verse, continue learning the two Shakespeare Sonnets—10 minutes
· Complete and Submit Review Questions on Pytheus the Greek ….
· Listen to Lecture 2 on Xuanzang’s Journey to the West —Look at the images. Notes on Xuangzang and Images Related to Xuanzang .
· Practice typing in the typing club—15 minutes
· Optional: work on a drawing related to Xuanzang.

Wednesday (4/1)
· Recite Morning Verse, continue learning the two Shakespeare Sonnets—10 minutes
· Complete and Submit Review questions on Xuanzang
· Listen to Lecture 3 on Leif Ericson and the Vikings Look at related images. Notes on Leif Ericson and Images Related to Vikings .
· Complete unfinished old MLB work.
· Decide which topic to choose for your new Explorer page in your main lesson book. And begin work on the drawing.
· Practice typing 15 minutes.

Thursday (4/2):
· Recite Morning Verse, continue learning the two Shakespeare Sonnets—10 minutes
· Complete and submit Review Questions 3 on Leif Ericson and the Vikings
· Write a draft on the topic you have chosen for your Main Lesson book page. Consider touching on some of the key facts asked about in the review questions.
· Work on the lay-out and drawing for this MLB page
· Practice Typing

Friday (4/3)
· Recite Morning Verse, continue learning the two Shakespeare Sonnets—10 minutes
· Finish your required main lesson book page on the topic you choose on Exploration.
· Optional: If you worked on an extra Main Lesson Book page(s) or drawing add a couple sentences describing the topic—this writing can be short.

Subject Classes:

English: Work on and finish your book report on Daughter of Venice or Shakespeare Stealer. It is due 4/3.

Math:
· Thursday: Math Worksheet Two

Orchestra: Practice your instrument!

German/Spanish: Here is a note from Frau Pilgrim and Senora Concha

Dear Seventh Grade Families,

For the week of March 30th, Seventh Graders should label ten items in the house in both German and Spanish. They may use google translate to find individual words and spelling. Students should write all words in their language binders. Please also continue with the morning verse in German and Spanish. Please text us with any questions. Eurythmy:

Dear students and parents,

Eurythmy is a class where we move and do many exercises together. Much of what we do needs lots of space and the whole class working together. This is hard to do while we are in this situation. There for each week I will send a eurythmy related exercise (not actually eurthmy) for your children to engage in.

Students, as you know from our classes together we do a lot of different exercises to develop dexterity and abilities in our hands and feet. This week your task is to write and draw with your feet! This exercise was done by some of the very first people who did eurythmy!

1. Gather a few big piece's of paper and crayons or pencils. Computer paper can work but for people with longer names is harder.
2. Find a place in your house or outside with good lighting, a nice surface on the ground (you can also use a big book as a surface) and a chair for you to sit.
3. Remove you shoes and socks and begin.
4. With your right foot write your name in cursive, then create a mirror image with your left foot on a new piece of paper.
5. Then write your last name the same way.
6. Then do the fallowing forms with the right foot then the left foot: A perfect circle, a figure eight done vertically then horizontally, triangle, diamond and five pointed star.
7. Finally finish by doing your name one more time.
8. Place your work in a binder that you will be adding to over the next few weeks and bring in when we begin school again.
9. Have fun!

Optional Sound finding contest with a Grand prize:

Your first assignment highlights the sounds of eurythmy and is also a contest:
"In the beginning was the word......"
The gestures in eurythmy that correspond to different sounds of our language can be seen in the world around us. The gesture for B can be seen in a hug, or a bear or even a cheek. The gesture for S can be seen, in a vine, a winding river, or a snail trail. The gesture for A (Remember eurythmy originated in the german language so the sound here is ah) can be seen in an opening bud or a wonder filled person. The gesture for I (pronounced ee) can be seen in a tree.....
Your task is to find as many of the sound's gestures in the world around you. Send a list of the sounds and where you found them to me by Sunday. The person who finds the most sounds will win a very nice prize! This will be sent to you by mail in a sanitized way. Any students who have not been at Hawthorne valley more then three years can team up with a class mate who has. If you have any questions about a sound please contact me.
