You may have had a chance to visit the new Navigating Autism section of our website. Over the next few weeks, we will be highlighting each section and introducing you to our toolkits. In this section of our website we provide you information to help you navigate through your autism journey. While written with parents/caregivers in mind, the information can be useful and beneficial to providers, other family members, and individuals.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder. The characteristics or symptoms typically show in early childhood including social interaction (relating to other people, things, and events), communication (using and understanding language), and behavior (repetitive and challenging). Whether you are just starting on your autism journey or have a need to revisit facts about ASD, this section of our website can provide information about prevalence, signs and symptoms, support and diagnostic criteria.

In this two-part webinar we will discuss the reasons why partnering with parents is so critical for children with ASD.

Participants will learn about the principles of family-centered care and key components of effectively working with parents. Participants will also learn basic strategies for working together to develop goals, and the use of basic coaching strategies to more effectively support parents in using strategies with their child in home and natural settings.

Finding a Place in the World-Supporting Children and Youth for the Transition to Adulthood Webinar:

More children with autism are growing up and often struggle to succeed in the adult world. Research has identified key factors that contribute to greater success in adult life. The presenters will discuss and provide strategies for teaching key social and adaptive skills and strategies for increasing collaboration between parents and professionals to facilitate successful transition to adult life. Participants will also learn about secondary-transition resources available in Oklahoma.

Date: June 25th from 12:00-1:00 with a Q &A from 1:00- 1:30.
