Article1CP of NYS AND COPA LOOK AT THE 2019-20 NYS BUDGET
 
The NYS budget included #bFair2DirectCare funding for a 2% increase in wage for some staff, including salary and salary related fringe benefits, effective 1-1-20, for 100 and 200 codes and another 2% increase, effective 4-1-20, for 100, 200 and 300 codes . Increases provided from 4-1-19 can be counted towards the 1-1-20 2% increase for 100 and 200.
 
There is also important information in the 2019-20 NYS Budget Analysis on the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP), Early Intervention and Electronic Visit Verification. This budget defers the Human Services COLA until March 2021.
 
The budget also increases education aid by $1 billion, includes a series of criminal justice reforms including eliminating cash bail requirements for misdemeanors and Class E felonies, bans the use of plastic bags, and adds $500 million for clean drinking water infrastructure needs. The OPWDD Division of Quality Improvement (DQI) will hold its Semi-Annual Spring Provider Training on Tuesday, April 23 at 9:30 a.m.

Article4QUALITY AND COMPLIANCE CONFERENCE SCHEDULED FOR MAY 7
 
The 12th Annual  Quality & Compliance Conference for Providers Serving People with Disabilities ,
presented by CP of NYS and The Arc New York, will take place at the Saratoga Hilton Hotel on Tuesday, May 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This year's conference will be highlighted by a Keynote address by Matthew D. Babcock, Assistant Medical Inspector General - Compliance for the New York State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General. Other sessions will include a panel discussion on Care Coordination compliance issues, an update on OMIG audits and a discussion on securing your data.
 
The event will begin at 8:45 a.m. with a welcome and opening remarks by Susan Constantino, President & CEO of CP of NYS.

Article5NYC BALLET TO CONDUCT DANCE WORKSHOP FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES DURING JULY RESIDENCY IN SARATOGA SPRINGS
 
Once again, this summer artists from the New York City Ballet (NYCB) will conduct a dance workshop for children with disabilities at the Gideon Putnam Hotel in Saratoga Springs on Saturday, July 20 from 11:00 a.m. to Noon. We can accommodate between 16 and 20 dancers ranging in age from about 4 years to late teens. Please contact us as soon as possible if you have a child wishing to participate in the workshop. The spots will be filled quickly.
 
Accompanied by a NYCB musician, two NYCB dancers will lead children in ballet-based warm-up and movement combinations inspired by a ballet from NYCB's repertory, concluding in a lively performance for accompanying family and friends. Please remember, participants should wear clothing that is comfortable to move in and we want to remind you that siblings are encouraged to participate.  Following the event, families can enjoy some light refreshments and a photo opportunity with the NYCB dancers.
 
We pair each young participant with a "buddy" to assist during the workshop and performance. The "buddies" can be a family member, friend or other individual who will work directly with the young dancers to help them with the movements. If you, or anyone you know, would like to volunteer to be a buddy, please have them contact CP of NYS.
 
We ask that everyone arrive at the Gideon Putnam by 10:15 a.m. on July 20th. You may drop off participants in the circle in front of the hotel. Please proceed to the second canopy and enter the building through the conference center doors. There will be signs and volunteers outside the hotel to direct you to the correct entrance.

Article6USTA ADAPTIVE TENNIS GRANT IS NOW AVAILABLE
 
The 2019 USTA Adaptive Tennis Grant is now available.   The deadline for submissions is Monday, April 15th.
 
The Adaptive Tennis Grant is offered to all USTA registered adaptive tennis programs in the United States that have been in existence a minimum of 1 year.  Grants are to assist in the promotion, implementation and/or growth of the programs at the community level. Grants range from $400 to $4,000.   If your program is not currently registered with USTA, there is a registration link in the body of the grant application.

Article7FIRST MCHC MEDFEST RATED A HUGE SUCCESS
 
Metro Community Health Centers (MCHC) and Special Olympics New York Healthy Athletes conducted a very successful MedFest event at the MCHC West Farms location in the Bronx on March 23. Special Olympics New York transported 19 athletes from the community to undergo free medical screenings by MCHC staff and other volunteers from Constructive Partnerships Unlimited (formerly CP of NYS Metro Services). 
 
MedFest was created to offer physical exams that all athletes need prior to participating in Special Olympics New York sports. Screenings assess blood pressure, temperature, pulse, height, weight, body mass index, vision, hearing, medical history, potential medication side effects and general physical health.
 
Discussions for future events and other projects between the organizations are already underway.

Article8FINGER LAKES COMMUNITY HEALTH AND MCHC RECOGNIZED BY NACHC AS ADVOCACY CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE
 
Congratulations are in order for Finger Lakes Community Health and Metro Community Health Centers (MCHC). Both organizations have recently been recognized by the National Association for Community Health Centers (NACHC) as bronze-level Advocacy Centers of Excellence (ACE). ACEs demonstrate ongoing commitment to advocacy through organizational priorities and advocacy wins. To learn more about NACHC's ACE program click HERE . 
 
 
Article9HRSA OFFERING ONE-TIME SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDING FOR ORAL HEALTH INFRASTRUCTURE
 
Health Resources and Services Administration ( HRSA) is making available $76 million in one-time supplemental funding for Oral Health Infrastructure to support health center infrastructure enhancements that will increase access to new or enhanced high-quality, integrated oral health services, including those provided via telehealth and virtual dentistry.
 
This funding opportunity will support:
  • One-time physical infrastructure investments, such as:
    • Minor alteration and renovation (A/R), and/or
    • Equipment purchases.
  • Organizational infrastructure investments such as training, consulting, and health information technology.
 
Organizations currently receiving Health Center Program operational grant funding are eligible to apply for up to $300,000. 
 
Applications are due in Grants.gov by Monday, April 22 and HRSA's Electronic Handbooks by Tuesday, May 21. HRSA expects to make approximately 250 supplemental awards in September.

Through large and small group sessions, YLFs are presented in a fun, interactive, and educational format with the support of peers along the way. Learn from guest speakers and panel presentations and participate in structured activities to practice leadership skills.

Foundations for Leadership (FFL) is a FREE workshop series where parents and caregivers learn tools and strategies for supporting the young people in their care as they develop into self-advocates and secure leadership roles. FFL is connected to AMPLIFY-NY's Youth Leadership Forums (YLFs). Caregivers attend the workshop on the first and last days of the YLF and participate in both individual sessions and joint sessions with youth participants.
