Learn valuable construction skills such as how to hang and finish drywall, install flooring, lay out and frame walls, and more! This is a great training for students, women and men. The cost of attending the training itself and lunch is $10.00. There is an option to stay overnight at Shelby on October 5-6 (Friday to Saturday). The cost of training with overnight housing/meals is $21.00. Register here or contact the church office if you are interested.

Volunteer at the Triangle Disabilities Awareness Council
The American Disabilities Association needs volunteers who can help them run their functions and programs. This would involved transporting presentation materials, helping with set-up and break-down, and then helping transport the materials back to the office. Also they need volunteers who can donate time for office work, even just an hour a week. For more information go to their website  or talk to Dorcas Saunders at church.

Reimagining Evanglism
Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks rd Raleigh NC; Sunday, Sept. 30
3:00 pm - 7:00pm; $10 admission for dinner
Comic look at evangelism Does the idea of evangelism excite you or make you squirm? Does the Good News actually sound like good news anymore? In an increasingly post-Christian culture, how can we be equipped to invite our neighbors to experience the way, the truth and the life of Jesus? RE gatherings are for people who sense the need for a new culture of Christian witness than another new curriculum. Dr. Steven Porter will be in our area to lead participants in a fresh reading of Scripture and ways of viewing the Mission of God in their church. Interested in attending? Go to the CBF website or contact the church office.
N ame Change Update
Name tag
Following the prompting of the Holy Spirit, the Elders recommend that we, HillSong Church, continue moving forward in the decision to change our church name. The Church has voted to begin this process on May 27th and we have been accepting suggestions for new names throughout the summer. Thank you to everyone who has submitted a name. For a list of all the names suggested, click here. This will be our process going forward:
  • Sunday, September 9, 2018 - Pastor Heather Folliard will lead the church in a time of prayer for discernment. The congregation is asked to pray over this list throughout the month of September.
  • Sunday, September 30, 2018 - All members will be invited into the Sanctuary during the Sunday School Hour (9:45-10:45am). Pastors Rob Tennant and Heather Folliard, and Elder Chairman Alan Stiles will moderate a group discussion. In this discussion we will talk about our church's values and vision, and we will discuss the names that have been submitted.
  • Sunday, September 30, 2018 - After worship, members will be asked to rank their top four selections for a new church name from those submitted. Using these rankings, the Elders will determine the top four names that will make up the final list.
  • Sunday, October 7, 2018 - During the Sunday School hour we will hold another discussion around those four finalists. We will pray and talk together. Then members will be asked to spend a week in prayer.
  • Sunday, October 14, 2018 - After service, we will have a special called business meeting in which each member is asked to select from among the four finalists. The name receiving the most votes will be our new name.
An official name adoption celebration will follow in 2019. Please contact Rob or Heather if you have any questions or concerns about this process.
First Day Prayer - from Pastor Rob
school_bus.jpg
You're driving out of your neighborhood, headed to an early meeting. You didn't leave the house quite early enough. Now, traffic ahead of you is stopped. Oh, no! A school bus. And there are 9 kids at stop, lined up, s-l-o-w-l-y boarding. Yes, it's the first   day, but must each parent give such a prolonged "goodbye"?
        Groan!
Finally, the bus gets moving, but then, as you turn onto the main road, it hits you. You have to drive right by the school, which will be backed up with parents dropping their kids off. Really? Today? Ugh!
You get past the school. Now you're sweating a bit. It won't look good if you're late to this meeting. You're thinking about the day ahead and don't really pay that close attention to where you're going. Driving on mental auto-pilot, you take the route through town as you have all summer. Only a few seconds too late do you realize, the university is also back in session.
        School is back in session!
