Wellesley Books Newsletter | July 21st, 2021
Many of us have felt compelled to reassess our possessions within the past year, given all the time we've been spending at home. If you've saved up a couple bags' worth of choice paperbacks culled from your shelves, now's the time to bring them in: our Used Book Cellar is once again open for trade-ins! At present, all trade-ins are by appointment only; please read our trade-in guidelines before calling to book your time.

Speaking of tidying, we've also been hard at work rearranging our store for better flow. Some of your favorite sections may have moved, so just ask us to show you around!

Staff Recommendations
Eliza recommends:
The Therapist by B.A. Paris
If you're in search of a thriller that's unpredictable, visceral and haunting--look no further. Alice's move into an idyllic gated community becomes anything but, as she begins to untangle the truth about herself, her neighbors and her friends. Refreshingly original and complex, but not for the faint of heart!
Sally recommends:
Intimacies by Katie Kitamura
A young woman moves from NYC to The Hague for the complicated and fascinating job of interpreter for the International Court. Told in the first person, we view her relationships with a friend, a lover, a client, an enigmatic bookstore owner. There is an underlying dread to the unfolding events and it soon becomes a puzzle where no one is really as they seem. Katie Kitamura weaves a great tale in her second novel.
Sofia recommends:
The Rehearsals by Annette Christie
This Groundhog Day-esque romance about a rehearsal dinner to be relived again and again was an absolute delight. I sped through this perfect summer read! While this was a light, romantic read, it also had a substantial exploration of relationships (both familial and romantic). I found this book to be both enjoyable and thought-provoking about my own relationship.

Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley
Daunis Fontaine, a bi-racial Ojibwe-Italian-American girl, has just graduated high school and has deferred enrollment at the University of Michigan to attend the local state school. She plans to spend more time with her best friend Lily, her ailing Grandmother, and her mom who was recently rocked by the sudden death of her brother, Daunis’ uncle. But then tragedy strikes, and Daunis is the eyewitness. And she is thrown headfirst into an FBI investigation of meth addiction and distribution within the reservation her family lives on and the greater Upper Peninsula area. A nuanced and compassionate look at addiction and the justice system and the risks one girl takes to help her friends, her community, and herself. The truth is a tangled web that it seems only Daunis is willing to carefully pick apart to not only expose the criminals but heal the victims as well.
Lucy recommends:
Any Way the Wind Blows by Rainbow Rowell
The final installment of Rowell's Simon Snow trilogy is just as inventive, engrossing, and romantic as the last two. Rowell wraps up Simon and Baz's relationship with so much care and depth, and gives every one of her characters a satisfying (if sometimes surprising) ending.

Dog of the Week
Rory

Rory is a one-year-old English Coonhound who lives with Wellesley's very own Lisa Rogers. Found as a stray in Virginia, he's been with the family for three months and likes to announce his presence with a hearty arrooo! He's a bit wiggly but would almost hold still for long enough to pose--with his chewy toy, of course--next to Lisa's Hound Won't Go.
