CALMOD E-NEWSLETTER
In this issue: Hear from fellow riders, the latest with construction, and electric train updates!

Get excited about electrification - these riders are!

Have you heard what our riders are excited about with the electric trains? We visited three Caltrain stations and talked to riders from throughout the corridor to find out what they're looking forward to most when the new electric trains are added to our fleet.  Reduced noise and air pollution, and more frequent service are just a few of the benefits to come! Watch the video to see what riders are saying about CalMod.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Construction to make Caltrain a modern, electric commuter rail system continues! This month, crews continued foundation installation from South San Francisco to Menlo Park and pole installation from South San Francisco to San Mateo. Two power transformers at the Traction Power Facility in South San Jose were also installed in December.

ELECTRIC TRAINS UPDATE

In January, interior equipment (mounting brackets, thermal and acoustic insulation, piping and electrical conduits, wire harnesses) were installed in the first four carshells of Trainset #1. Electric train truck frames under development are now undergoing static load, fatigue testing and installation clearance checks.

What Is CalMod?

The Caltrain Modernization Program (CalMod) includes electrification and other projects that will upgrade the performance, efficiency, capacity, safety and reliability of Caltrain's service. The current electrification project will electrify the corridor from San Francisco to San Jose and replace 75 percent of Caltrain's diesel service with high-performance electric trains, reducing air pollution and providing better service to more riders.
