Diversity: Building a Stronger Future
The Call for Participation for the 2019 ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing Conference is Open!
The ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing conference is the premier venue to acknowledge, promote and celebrate diversity in computing.
The goal of the Tapia Conferences is to bring together undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, researchers, and professionals in computing from all backgrounds and ethnicities to:
Celebrate the diversity that exists in computing;
Connect
with others with common backgrounds, ethnicities, disabilities, and gender so as to create communities that extend beyond the conference;
Obtain advice
from and make contacts with computing leaders in academia and industry;
Be inspired
by great presentations and conversations with leaders with common backgrounds.
Tapia 2019 builds upon the success of Tapia 2018, which included a diverse audience of over 1400 attendees from industry, academia, government and nonprofits.
The 2019 Tapia conference theme Diversity: Building a Stronger Future reminds us of the critical role of diversity in computing innovation and the creation of the future of all aspects of STEM. Engaging a diverse workforce results in solutions that benefit everyone and creates a stronger, brighter future.
We invite you to submit a workshop, panel, or birds of a feather (BOF) in one of the following tracks:
Technical:
covering technical topics in computing i.e. quantum computing, blockchain, the era of post-Moore Law, artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, Internet of Things, robotics, security, privacy, virtual/augmented reality, human-centric computing, smart mobility, and social computing.
Professional Development for Academia: covering topics particular to undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, or administrators, such as networking, leadership, applying for graduate school/fellowships, academic careers, and effective teaching of computing.
Professional Development for Industry and Government Agencies: covering topics
such as entrepreneurship, effective communication, networking, bringing your full self to the workplace, career paths, mentoring networks.
Broadening Participation:
topics particular to increasing participation by diverse groups in computing, topics such as such as culturally relevant computing, gender-inclusive design, accessibility, unconscious bias, outreach,
impostor
syndrome, recruitment and retention.
Submissions are now open for workshops, panels, and birds-of-a-feather (BOF). We invite students to submit posters and to the doctoral consortium.
All program submissions for the Tapia 2019 Conference are due by Friday, March 11th at 11:59 PM Pacific
