Continental Congress 2021
Kate Duncan Smith DAR School was honored to be part of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution's Virtual 130th Continental Congress June 30th – July 4th. While we missed being in our nation’s capital, enjoying the festivities with friends, the school and its students still featured prominently during the various events.

The DAR School Committee “luncheon” looked a little different this year. In addition to being held utilizing a virtual format, the program was broadcast live from the high school library on the campus of KDS DAR School.

NSDAR Provides Funds for KDS Needs
During the live DAR School Committee event broadcast on Friday, July 2nd, gifts from the Friends of DAR Schools Fund were presented by National Chair Morgan Lake, with KDS receiving $35,000 to purchase a compact utility tractor.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution encourages its members to support the DAR School program through the Friends of DAR Schools Fund. The Friends of DAR Schools Fund contributions pay for needed projects at the DAR-supported schools.

Through the Friends of DAR Schools Fund, the National Society and the DAR Approved Schools are working together to address the greatest needs of the schools and their students. Thank you for your support of this valuable program.
Junior Members Shine Light on KDS Projects
A highlight of Continental Congress each year is certainly the Junior Membership Committee Luncheon. Although the 2021 ‘luncheon’ was held virtually, this year’s event was no exception.

Help our Students Have
a Super School Year
KDS DAR School faculty and staff members are busy preparing to welcome more than 1,300 students back to campus for the 2021-2022 school year, and we need your help to make it the best year yet! With approximately 55% of the KDS student population living at or below the poverty line, many of the children who attend KDS do not have the basic items to make back-to-school a fun and exciting time.

KDS Graduate Elected
Vice President General
KDS graduate Tammy Clemons was elected to the office of Vice President General, NSDAR, during the 130th Continental Congress.

Tammy served as Alabama State Regent from 2018-2021 and is an Honorary Regent of the Gunter Mountain Chapter, NSDAR.
Congratulations, Tammy! We are so proud of you!
