FEATURED EVENT: Century Turf Ribbon-Cutting
Century commemorated the opening of its new synthetic turf field and lights with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 1. The $2.63 million project allows for all-season and evening use, and fulfills the 2017 Bond's promise to replace an aging facility and provide an equitable environment for the Century community. Now, all high schools in the District have lighted turf fields. Speakers at the ceremony highlighted the impacts of the project on themselves and Century students. They also expressed their gratitude for the community's support and to the voters who approved the bond in November 2017. Click here

District Receives $255,000 to Help Replace Buses
HSD recently learned of its selection for funding under the EPA's Diesel Emission Reduction Act School Bus Rebate Program. Our award of $255,000 for the current school year will be used to help offset 20 percent of the cost of replacing 13 of our buses that do not meet current emissions standards, moving us closer to compliance with the deadline of 2025 for ensuring all buses in our fleet are eco-friendly. Another 30 percent of the cost of these buses will be reimbursed by Volkswagen settlement money within the next two years. The buses - six full-sized clean diesel transit buses (flat-nosed), four full-sized clean diesel conventional buses (with hood), and three smaller propane buses - will be purchased this summer, in time for the start of the 2019-20 school year. We will continue to apply for EPA rebates to help us fund the replacement of the remainder of our bus fleet over the coming years.
