Lions Club Partners with Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital for Mt. McSauba Campers
Campers at this year’s Mt. McSauba day camp became familiar with a new program rolled out as a result of a partnership with the local Lions Club and Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital. Called “Try-it-Tuesday,” the program’s goal was to introduce new healthy snack foods to the campers, aged 5-13.

The hospital, through its Wellness Workshop, provided a dietitian and registered nurse to work with the campers each Tuesday morning, making healthy snacks. In many cases, the young campers were trying certain fruits, veggies and other nutritious snacks for the very first time. Smoothies, fruit kabobs, parfaits and fruit “bugs” all took their turns showing up in pre-packaged kits for groups of campers to work together to assemble. The hospital’s certified diabetes educator, Amanda Evans, and Kristie Fichtner, RN, joined the campers each Tuesday to not only provide the ingredients and recipes, but to provide health tips and education that would help promote healthy eating.
