How To Zoom: A New Way of Meeting During Extraordinary Times
Zoom is the software of the pandemic. It’s a free platform for connecting with people over the internet while remaining safely distanced.
Zoom is available for desktops/laptops and for mobile phones and tablets, regardless of operating system.
The easiest way to connect is to download the software or app to your device, create an account, and then click a link to a meeting or event you wish to attend.
Zoom links generally look like this:
The last digits are the Meeting ID. It can be 9, 10 or 11 digits.
Some meetings will require a password. Meeting notices or invitations will usually provide a password if one is required.
Once you have entered a meeting, there are controls for your audio and video participation. Most meetings also have certain protocols, including that you keep your audio muted unless you are sharing. Other instructions may vary according to meeting requirements.
It is important to pay attention to the time that meetings are scheduled.
For some meetings, the virtual room may not be open ahead of the scheduled time.
For others, the virtual space may be available to attendees to arrive early and visit.
If you have questions of any kind, check with the meeting leader or the Parish Office.
