“The ultimate measure of a person is not where one stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where one stands in times of challenge and controversy.”

STAY CURRENT ON THE STATE OF EDUCATION IN OUR REGION
IF YOU'RE HOPING TO attend a WPSBA Roundtable Discussion or two (or many) next week, make sure you register now. With sessions in the morning, afternoon and evening on topics such as student and faculty mental health, communicating with parents, and assessing student learning, these small group conversations with colleagues across the region are a great way to see how other districts are Navigating the New Landscape. As districts transition back and forth between in-person, hybrid and full remote configurations, sharing information is invaluable.
AFTER THANKSGIVING... WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THIS EVIDENCE OF FORWARD-THINKING
IS YOUR DISTRICT POSITIONED to address student well-being as the pandemic continues? WPSBA's webinar, Supporting Students in the New Landscape, December 10th (6:30 pm - 8:00 pm), is like a master class in establishing practices on teaching about racism, blended learning, and mental health support. If you want in, ask your district clerk to sign you up (there's a $20 fee for this program).
IMMEDIATE ADVOCACY ACTION NEEDED ON TRANSPORTATION AID
IT'S TIME TO TAKE BOARD ACTION AND RALLY YOUR community to make noise about the fact that NYS is not releasing transportation aid for the times school is fully remote during the pandemic. The impediments are all baked in to ed law, which narrowly confines reimbursement for transportation expenses to student transport, disregarding contractual obligations and other uses for school buses (such as delivery of meals and materials). We've put together a customizable board resolution, a VoterVoice e-letter campaign, and a letter template to help you engage your community to focus legislator attention on this issue.
