A Message from the Principal

Lovejoy HS News 04 08 19

P arents and Guardians,

If you enjoy basketball and all-things Texas, this has been a great weekend for you. With UT Men's Basketball winning the NIT on Thursday, Baylor Women's Basketball winning the Women's National Championship last night, and Texas Tech Men's Basketball playing for the National Championship tonight, it has definitely been an exciting past few days.  Christy and I are especially excited for our son Jake (LHS Class of 2016) who is a Senior at Texas Tech.  He has been keeping us up to date on all pre-game info as well as the "fandemonium" happening in Lubbock.

This week, many of our students will be taking their End of Course (EOC) Exams. The English I EOC Exam will primarily include 9th graders and will be administered on Tuesday, April 9th. On Thursday, April 11th, our 10th grade students will take the English II EOC Exam. Both exams will begin at approximately 8:45 a.m. and will conclude for most students by 1:00 p.m. Plenty of sleep and a good breakfast will be a great way to help your student be ready for these days.

Don't forget that next Friday, April 19th is a school holiday. Students and staff have the day off and Lovejoy High School will be closed.

Please take some time and review the information below regarding some of the important dates and events that are coming up. Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School

Girls Soccer All-District Honors
After finishing 3rd place in District 10-5A many of the girls received All-District Honors. Congratulations to the team and all the girls who received honors.

Midfielder of the Year
Freshman Tatum Chester was named Midfielder of the Year. She was a constant threat playing down the right side of midfield. Her ability in 1v1 situations and her shooting led the way for the team. Tatum scored 10 goals and had 4 assists in district.

1st Team All-District
Sophomores Sadie Dale and Hannah Dunlap, Junior Reagan Matacale, and Senior Jessie Maashio earned 1st Team All-District honors. Coming off ankle surgery, Sadie Dale did an excellent job for the team as a center midfielder and a center back. Hannah Dunlap scored a goal and had five assists in district; her vision was a danger for opposing defenses all district season. Captain Reagan Matacale had 5 goals and 6 assists in district; her leadership, passion, and creativity were instrumental to the team's attacking success. Jessie Maashio, leading the line as a center forward, had 6 goals and 3 assists; her determination, love for the game, and senior leadership were invaluable to the team all year.

2nd Team All-District
Sophomores Katie Welch, Jordan Watson, Hailey Downing, and Junior Andee Richardson earned 2nd Team All-District honors. Playing center midfield for the first time, Katie was consistently our link between our defense and attack all season. Jordan played solid and led our back line during district and took countless throw-ins and set pieces for the team. Our starting goalkeeper, Hailey Downing, saved us on numerous occasions with some outstanding saves during the district season. Coming over from Cross Country, Andee Richardson started and played almost every minute during the district season at right back, she has really made that position her own.

Honorable Mention
Sophomores, Bella Kusgen and Chloe Brown, received Honorable Mention honors. Bella did an excellent job transitioning to a new position and played solid at left back all season. Playing as a holding center midfielder the defensive work Chloe did for the team allowed our attacking players to do what they do best.

Groups are being offered, based on need, to every campus in the district, grades K-12.

If you are interested in your student participating in a group, please click here to complete the interest form. Noelle Gove will be in contact with parents regarding further details of the group and to obtain consent for student participation.
