Greetings!
I can’t believe we’re already at the end of this year – a year that has felt like it lasted five years! We are still in the midst of a global pandemic, and we are on the precipice of a historic US election that will alter the course of many lives one way or another, so it’s safe to say, we can only hope for a kinder, calmer, and less eventful 2021.
Since we last checked in with you in July with our quarterly newsletter, a lot has happened and I’d like to share some of the highlights with you. Explosions rocked Beirut in August, and we have a round-up of some of the interventions our network mobilized immediately to help. We’ve also gathered updates from our members on what they’ve been busy with over the past year so we can keep you up-to-date on what your peers are doing around the region. We also have some past and upcoming events to tell you about, and an update on some of the ways we hope to engage with you through the end of the year.
I’m looking forward to closing out this exhausting year on a hopeful and positive note, so please make sure to give us your feedback and let us know what we can do for you and how we can stay engaged.

Since August 4th, social entrepreneurs across Lebanon have rallied to help rebuild Beirut and support the vulnerable communities worst affected by the blast. Within minutes of the devastating explosion in the Beirut port on August 4, 2020, AUB doctors, nurses, and medical staff were preparing to care for the injured who they knew would come. In the first 24 hours, more than 500 casualties were treated at the AUB Medical Center. READ MORE

The ACSS Research Grants Program (RGP) on "Health and Livelihoods in the Arab Region: Wellbeing, Vulnerability and Conflict" responds to the continuous socio-political and economic restructuring of the Arab region, especially during the last decade marked by strife and conflict in some countries and resulting in mass displacement and forced migration. Taawon aims to provide essential equipment for the Beirut Governmental Hospital in order to make it operational as soon as possible and help those most badly affected. The provision of equipment will also ensure the sustainability of services for years to come and will enable the hospital to serve many of the most vulnerable children and adults in Beirut who have nowhere else to turn. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Sawiris Foundation for Social Development (SFSD) has been committed to support the Egyptian government as well as marginalized communities most affected by the ramifications of the pandemic.
