TURN OFF YOUR ENGINE TO HELP RIVERSIDE SCHOOL GO GREEN!
New anti-idling signs that have been installed around the drive way in front of Riverside school thanks to our
Green Committee
and their efforts to increase air quality for our kids around school. Idling is harmful for many reasons including:
- Breathing in exhaust can aggravate asthma, allergies, and cardiovascular disease.
- 10 seconds of idling uses more fuel than turning off the engine and restarting it
- Every gallon of gas burned produces more than 20 pounds of greenhouse gases
Let's come together and make an effort to change this behavior for the wellness of our students and community.
Get more information about Connecticut's anti-idling efforts.

SCIENCE ENRICHMENT PROGRAM - 2ND GRADE
On
Tuesday, April 2nd, Animal Embassy visited each of the second grade classes for a
"Life Under the Surface" workshop. Students learned about the many reasons animals dig into the surface of the Earth. While exploring the subterranean realm, 2nd graders met a variety of animals that call it home including an African Sulcata Tortoise, an Indian Sand Boa, a Soft Shelled Turtle, and an African Pygmy Hedgehog.
Science Enrichment programs are made possible by your donations to the PTA. Thank you!

BUS DRIVER RESPONSIBILITY ON FOOD ALLERGIES
The State of Connecticut has adopted NEW Regulations to protect students on buses. Beginning July 2019 school bus drivers will be trained to recognize the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and trained in the administration of Epi-Pens. With parent permission the district will provide the bus company the names of students with known allergies. Parents will insure that the appropriate epi-pens are carried on their child in a safe, secure and clearly marked container that includes an emergency action plan.
If you have further questions please contact the district Nursing Supervisor, Mary Keller, RN at 203-625-7494.
