Mercer Library closed
Hello, library friends -

As you know, Governor Tony Evers has issued a "Safer At Home" order for all non-essential Wisconsin businesses and workers until April 24. Public libraries are specifically prohibited from offering any in-person services, so the Mercer Library will no longer be open, even to curbside service.

What does that mean for you? If you have library materials checked out, please keep them until the safer-at-home order has been lifted. We've extended the due dates on ALL items until at least May 4. Our book drop is still open, but we ask you to use it only if absolutely necessary. Our library is always fine-free so you won't be charged late fees no matter when you are able to return your items.

There are still a number of ways your library can help you get through this month of self-isolation. Read below for more details on some of our online resources and services.

It's a difficult time for all of us. I want you to know that the entire Mercer community is on my mind, and I encourage you to reach out if there's anything I can help with by email. I'm here for any of your library-access, homework-help, tech-question, and fact-checking needs.

Take care, wash your hands, and stay home!

Online library resources

Access the Mercer Library's digital services from anywhere you have internet access, in Wisconsin and outside it.

  • Wisconsin's Digital Library has ebooks and audiobooks for download. (Get the "Libby" app to use them on your smartphone or tablet, too. iOS | Android)
  • Gale Courses offers hundreds of free, 6-week classes on just about anything you could want to learn! It's not too late to register and catch up on courses that started last week.
  • Badgerlink offers content databases for consumers, genealogists, student researchers, teachers, and everyone else.
  • For a limited time, we're making Ancestry Library Edition available from home. You'll need to know where to find it and what password to use, so see our website for that information.

You may need your library card number to access these resources from home. If you don't know your number, email director@mercerpubliclibrary.org and we'll look it up for you.

If you don't already have a library card, you can now register for a card online and get immediate access to our digital services! Video instructions are on this Digital Resources page on our website , or you can go directly to the self-registration form . Please share this information with any friends or family in the Iron County community who might be wishing for a library card right now.

While I'm working from home, I've been adding quite a bit to the Mercer Public Library website . Check it out!

  • This COVID-19 Resources page includes links to reliable sources about the COVID-19 virus, financial resources, tips for avoiding scams and misinformation, and resources to help explain COVID-19 to your kids.
  • This "Stuck at Home" page is where I'm creating a list of fun and educational online activities for all ages, from young children to adults. Hopefully some of these resources will help you stay entertained, educated, and connected while you are at home this month.
  • This Digital Library Resources page contains links to all of our online services available anywhere, as well as brief video instructions for some services.

I'm adding more to all of these pages as I find things I think are worth checking out. Do you have suggestions to add? Email them to me!
