Michigan in Context
Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) (July)
Released in December 2020, the data in WICHE’s Knocking at the College Door 10th edition of high school graduate projections predated the pandemic. This new report reviews public high school enrollment and graduate data from the last two years and provides additional information. Twelve of 19 states featured in the report, including Michigan, had more public high school graduates in 2020 than in 2019, and almost all states had more than projected. In its December 2020 report, WICHE had forecasted a year-over-year decline of 3,408 public high school graduates in Michigan. Their revised forecast is a decline of 1,528, a 55% improvement over their original forecast.
