Dear Human Options Family,

As we all continue to adapt to a dynamic environment as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we wish to reiterate our commitment to extending a safe place for victims of relationship violence and advocating on their behalf.  In stressful times such as these, and with isolation being mandated or recommended, we know that rates of relationship violence can rise  and for many, being at home may not be the safest option.  Our services are needed now more than ever.

We are focused and committed to protecting the health and safety of our clients, staff, partners, volunteers and visitors to our buildings while we continue to support vital programs for individuals who may need them.
We Are Here and Ready to Help
  • We are functioning under the "new normal" and are here to support survivors.
  • Our hotline remains active and staffed while maintaining social distancing protocol.  If you need help or know someone who does, you can call our 24-hour free hotline at 877-854-3594, it is available 7 DAYS A WEEK.
  • Shelters are up and running, available, and accessible to people who need them.
  • The only major change in operations is the closure of our Family Resource Centers located on school sites, however they will continue to provide certain services via teleconference. Please contact our hotline if you have questions or need to get connected with a family resource center near you.
How We Have Stepped Up Safety
The health and safety of our residents in shelter as well as the staff providing care are of utmost concern. We are continuously monitoring the recommendations of state leadership, the CDC, and WHO to implement precautionary measures as appropriate.  We are taking active measures to ensure we are meeting public health standards as well as mitigating the spread of infectious disease, such as:
  • Following CDC cleaning protocols: Heightened cleaning protocols are in place at all Human Options locations throughout the county. These include increased frequency of surface cleaning, frequent hand washing, utilizing tissues when coughing or sneezing and sending home staff showing signs of illness.
  • Educating residents about precautionary measures: We have conveyed steps that can be taken by residents to ensure the ongoing harmony and safety of community living, including wiping down shared surfaces, frequent hand washing, and addressing childcare needs as schools close.
  • Limiting exposure: We are advising shelter residents to limit outside exposure to only the most vital appointments. Case managers are using precaution when meeting with clients.
  • Social distancing: We have postponed events of large audiences and are offering staff the opportunity to work remotely, where feasible.
How You Can Help
During times of crisis, especially in quarantine situations,
victims are even more vulnerable.

With your support, we can continue to meet the safety needs of our clients. Please consider making a gift that will allow us to remain a resource to families in need of pursuing a future free from violence.
Sincerely,
Maricela Rios-Faust, MSW, LCSW, CFRE
