Interactive Drama Strategies for Social and Emotional Learning
Exploring how specific drama strategies, games and activities can support Social/Emotional learning for High School, Middle School and Elementary students.

4-Hour Professional Development:

Earn a CUNY Certificate of Completion and CTLE Credit for Professional and Level III Teaching Assistant certificate holders.

There is a natural connection between interactive drama strategies and how they can be used to build student’s key social and emotional skills such as Self-awareness, Self-management, Social awareness, Relationship skills and Responsible decision-making. Theatre can be a mask, to practice new strategies/techniques/modes of interacting and a mirror, to allow them to see themselves, their choices, decisions and consequences.

In this session, participants will:

  • Explore how specific drama strategies, games and activities can support Social and Emotional learning.
  • Focus on maximizing student engagement and centering what students already know to build on their practical knowledge.
  • Practice facilitating the strategies, with a particular focus on step-by-step directions, personal facilitation style, and how they might be adapted for different populations and physical environments.

Who should attend?
Educators of elementary students and upper grades, interested in exploring new tools for student engagement and creativity.

Led by Mícheál Curtin, Director of Literacy Through Drama Project. Coffee and tea provided.

What our participants are saying about Professional Development sessions at CAT:

“I was thinking, 'It’s the end of a long school year, do I really want to attend a professional development workshop?'
So glad I did, it was the perfect way to end the year.”
