Your Girl Scouts Weekly News & Updates
Dear Girl Scouts,

As we wrap up an eventful Girl Scout month in March, our 108-year old motto "Be Prepared," seems more fitting than ever. It fills me with joy to see how prepared you are to thrive, even while most of you have to stay home from school and your usual activities during this challenging time. You are prepared to stay safe and healthy, prepared to learn new things, prepared to try out new technology to stay connected to each other, and especially prepared to help others in need.

I love all the activities our program team has put together and I can't wait to hear about the games, comics, flyers and paddle boats you design. And I want to virtually visit the Great Wall of China too! Enjoy. Of course, please feel free to share with friends outside of Girl Scouts. They would love this too.

Do a good turn daily,
Pat

Badges From Home
Badges of the Week
One of the great things about Girl Scouts is that it can be done anytime, anywhere. Here are a handful of quick, easy, and fun Badges that you can complete with materials commonly found around the house!
Daisy Board Game:  Come up with an idea for a board game, design a spinner, and test your game!
Brownie Fling Flyer: Learn about forces that affect flight, design, build, and test your fling flyer, share your results, and brainstorm ways to improve your design!
Junior Paddle Boat: Explore how paddle boats work, design and build one, test, analyze, and share your results, and brainstorm ways to improve your design!
Cadette Comic Artist: Delve into the world of comics, choose a story to tell, draw it out, frame it, and add the words to create your own comic!

Troop Leaders, don't forget: Full Badge requirements and lessons can also be viewed on the Volunteer Toolkit (VTK).

At Home Challenges
Rise and Thrive Challenge
Girl Scouts can’t and won’t stop. In fact, Girl Scouts can do anything! Our program team had a lot of fun creating a “Rise and Thrive” challenge as a way for the whole family to try new things and stay active while at home. We can’t wait to hear about all the fun things you do together. Submit by May 31st to earn a FREE patch!
Download the Rise and Thrive Challenge here .
Outdoor Challenge
Sharpen your outdoor skills by practicing knot tying, learning about rocks and clouds, and more!
Do A Good Turn Daily Challenge
Throughout history, Girl Scouts has risen to the occasion when our communities are faced with hardships and difficulties. During WWII, Girl Scouts  sold war bonds and tended victory gardens ,  and formed   “Defense Institutes”   for teaching women necessary skills and ways to comfort children during possible air raids. Locally, hundreds of Girl Scouts participate in the annual sock drive,  Warm Hearts, Toasty Toes ,  where they donate more than 10,000 pairs of socks each year to local organizations who serve those in need.
How can you serve others and your community?
  • Write someone you love a note
  • Send a letter or drawing to someone in a nursing home
  • Write down 5 things that you are grateful for
  • Call or Video-chat someone you love

Did you or someone you know do a good turn? Please tell us about it; we'd love to share your story! Email your story to program@girlscouts-ssc.org

If you too are meeting online, we’d love to hear from you! To show our admiration; the first 50 girls to take a screenshot of your online troop meeting and send it to program@girlscouts-ssc.org will receive a FREE fun patch!

Not ready to dive in to the world of virtual troop meetings? We totally understand. We’re currently working on developing “virtual meeting toolkits” and guidelines for Troop Leaders; stay tuned for more updates to come!
