SkinCenter's Ambulance Donation Update
As many of you are aware SkinCenter has donated 2 ambulances that are stationed in Israel. The ambulances serve the Jewish, Christian, Muslim and the Armenian population in Israel. SkinCenter receives reports from Magen David Adom (the Red Cross of Israel) quarterly showing how our donation helps. The ambulances are used daily and we are excited to share with you how the ambulances are helping the residents of the cities.

PSORIASIS
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory condition which causes red thick scaly patches on the skin. It is caused by an overactive immune system which causes skin cells to replicate up to ten times faster than normal cells. The extra amount of skin cells creates the red, thick, raised flaky patches. The most common sites for psoriasis are the elbows, knees and scalp. The red patches can be itchy and often form at areas of skin injury. The treatment for psoriasis includes topical medications, light therapy, or systemic therapy and biologics. The treatment is determined by the severity and extent of psoriasis. Patients with psoriasis have an increased chance of developing other health conditions including psoriatic arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and metabolic syndrome (which includes hypertension, obesity, cardiovascular disease, hyperlipidemia, gout and type 2 diabetes).
FEATURED PROCEDURE
Narrow Band UVB Phototherapy
Narrowband UVB Phototherapy is a light treatment that can effectively treat an array of chronic skin conditions including, psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, pruritus (itching), lichen planus and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (mycosis fungoides). It uses a specific wavelength of ultraviolet light, 311-313 mn which has shown to provide faster results with less treatments and longer periods of remission. The possible side effects are skin burning similar to a sun burn. Long term exposure to narrow band UVB may cause skin aging and rarely skin cancers. Treatments are typically three times weekly and the length of time exposed to light increases at each visit until desired affect is achieved. The number of treatments needed depends on the patient and their condition.
Ask Dr. G
SkinCenter is excited to announce a new feature in our newsletter called Ask Dr. G. This column will try to respond to NON-Medical questions or just some advice from Dr.G. If you have any questions or ideas please email us at AskDrG@skincenter.com

A patient recently mentioned that they are worried about losing their phone, after a little research I came across a study done by Asurian that noted that 71% of Americans lock their cell phones with either facial recognition, fingerprint or password protection. However, according to the survey, more than 75% of cell phone users do not have their contact details located on the locked screen. This makes it impossible for a good samaritan to return your phone. It is a good idea to add an image to your locked screen with your email address and/or phone number to call so that your phone can be returned to you.
