The 5th Grade Tower Garden has been thriving! In January, students planted rainbow chard, bok choy, blue dwarf kale, lacinato kale, cilantro, lettuce, and arugula. We have been watching the plants slowly get bigger and bigger. Finally, it was time to harvest our bounty. Students brought in tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, celery, artichoke hearts, and peppers as toppings, along with a variety of salad dressing. We mixed a huge bowl of greens and opened up a salad bar in Room 202! Many students stated that salad had never tasted better. When asked to share their experience, this is what some 5th graders had to say:
"I really enjoyed the salad party. It was extremely amazing and the salad was spot on."
"This was the best science class I've ever had!"
"When you got your salad and ate some of the greens, there was so many different flavors. They went so well with each other."
"I have salad pretty much once a week, but it has never been this cool."
Olivia B. wrote: "The salad party was one of the highlights of the year for me! I loved how we started to grow all the vegetables and then eat them. It is amazing to know that our class grew all of these delicious vegetables and learned all about them. Some of these vegetables we have never heard of like Bok Choy (my favorite). I think that the tower garden was an amazing experience that worked like a charm. The salad party was amazing. I loved the idea and how it turned out. I can not thank Mrs. Dodge enough for coming up with this amazing idea and the salad party."

WCA is working to organize a career day on Tuesday,
May 7. We are looking for parent volunteers who are willing to come in to speak to students about your job and career.
-
Primary students will learn about what the job is and why it is important to the community.
-
Elementary students will learn what the job is and what skills are involved in doing it.
-
Middle schoolers will learn not only about the job, but also the education necessary for the career.
-
If your company or job has any international aspects, we would love to have that involved as well.
We are hoping to have many different professions represented for the students. The event will be taking place during the school day with different age groups of students filtering through at different times. If you are interested in volunteering for Career Day or know someone who might be, please contact
Kate Parker. Please note, depending on the amount of interest, we may not be able to accommodate all volunteers.
|
Mark your calendars! Field Day is right around the corner. Elementary School will participate on May 16, and Middle Schoolers will join the fun on May 17. If we have inclement weather, the make-up day will be May 21. A sign-up genius will be created shortly as we'd love to have parent volunteers for the day. If you have any questions regarding Field Day, please reach out to
Mr. Millard
