Dear Library community,

At 1 pm on 3/16/2020, the Public Health Officer of San Mateo County, along with his peers in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, and Santa Clara counties announced a legal order directing their respective residents to shelter at home for three weeks beginning March 17 in response to the COVID-19 crisis. While this action is a bold, unified action, public health officials are encouraging all of us to remain calm. Essential businesses, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, banks and government functions will continue to remain open. Members of the public can continue to complete the most essential outings, so long as social distancing is practiced.

As a result, the services that the Library is able to offer at this time have changed. Newly implemented service modifications have been indicated with (UPDATED) below. We thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. You can keep up with the latest Library information here, and the latest on other City of Redwood City services at https://www.redwoodcity.org/coronavirus.

Library services that will not be available over the upcoming weeks:
  • All four Redwood City Public Library locations will be closed from Monday, March 16 through at least Tuesday, March 31
  • The book drops at all four libraries and the outside input for the automated library return system at Redwood Shores will be closed. Keep your library materials until further notice. No overdue fines will be applied to your account. Due dates will be extended to June 30 for all items. (UPDATED)
  • Library assistance will be available by telephone Monday-Friday from 10 am to 5 pm at (650) 780-7018, extension 4. Please be patient as it may take a day or two for this service to be activated. (UPDATED)
  • Customers will not be able to place new holds through the online catalog during the closure, but all materials already on hold shelves will remain there until we are able to reopen
  • All Library meeting room reservations until at least March 31 will be cancelled, and refunds will be issued for any paid reservations. No new meeting room reservations will be taken for dates between now and May 31, but you may continue to make reservations for dates from June 1 forward
  • All library programs, storytimes, and events through Sunday, April 12 are cancelled or postponed
Library services that are available:
  • Due dates for library materials, including Wifi hotspots, will be extended through June 30, so you do not need to worry about your materials being returned late at this time (UPDATED)
