FUTURE TRAILS OF NORTHERN DELAWARE COALITION UPDATE
The group of involved and invested organizations and agencies that form the Future Trails of Northern Delaware Coalition , met last month at the Blue Ball Barn to discuss current trail projects. Right now, the coalition's focus is on the following trails: Brandywine Heritage Trail, Commons Boulevard Pathway, Augustine Cut Off Trail, Claymont to Fox Point State Park Trail, Markell to Newport Trail, and the remaining sections of the East Coast Greenway needing improvement. We've updated our Major Trails Interactive map to reflect the updates discussed at the meeting. FTND Map

DELAWARE BAYSHORE BYWAY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE PROJECT
Delaware Greenways led a Delaware Bayshore Byway Management Committee Meeting at the Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve (DNERR) to discuss the status of numerous projects and events in the communities along the 100-mile byway from New Castle to Lewes. There were 30 members in attendance from all along the byway.

A collaborative and intensive effort involving the committee members and its Chair, Steve Borleske, along with Jeff Greene and Adam Crosby of Delaware Greenways is underway to assess the resources along the state byway, cataloging many venues, attractions, events and activities. The Committee approved working with the Delaware Office of Tourism on a common marketing strategy for the Bayshore Byway and its surrounding communities based upon the assessment. The guide will provide visitors and Delawareans with in-depth information on places and businesses they've yet to discover!
Don't forget to pick up your Byways Bucks if you plan to travel on any of the state's byways. There's a growing list of businesses accepting the "bucks" that provide discounts on purchases! Byways Bucks Overview

BRANDYWINE VALLEY NATIONAL SCENIC BYWAY
The 2019 to 2029 Corridor Management Plan for the Brandywine Valley National Scenic Byway has been completed and approved by the Byway Advisory Board and is now on tap to be signed by DelDOT’s Secretary of Transportation, Jennifer Cohan. For the past year, the Partnership and its Committees have worked hard as it developed the eight-strategy Plan. Highlights of the Plan include continuing to press for the adoption of the Byway’s Design Guidelines into County Code, addressing the need to preserve the beautiful mansions of Chateau Country, manage travel demand on the Byway, work with our world-class cultural institutions on projects to increase visitation and to increase support of the Byway among the residents and businesses of the Brandywine Valley.

REINSTATING BYWAYS ACT S-359
Delaware Greenways supports three of Delaware’s six Scenic Byways. Each is managed by a committee of organizations and citizen volunteers dedicated to protect and preserve each Byway. Recently, each Byway Committee wrote to Senators Chris Coons and Tom Carper to support the Reviving America’s Scenic Byways Act of 2019, Senate Bill S-349. Approval of this bill enables our State to upgrade the Delaware Bayshore Byway and other of our State’s Byways to national status like the Brandywine Valley National Scenic Byway. We can now report that Senator Coons has become one of the sponsors of the Legislation and we look forward to continue to advocate for its passage.
"As a result of over 40 years of innovation, most short trips in the Netherlands today are accomplished using a bicycle. The goal of the 2019 Walkable Bikeable Delaware Summit is to learn, directly, from leading Dutch experts on cycling about practical ideas and solutions that we can use in Delaware." James Wilson, Executive Director of Bike DE explains. Three experts from the Netherlands will be speaking at the Summit: Eric van Dijk, Sjors van Duren and Wim van der Wijk. It should be an informative day!
