The Color of Life

Recently, I got the opportunity to sit on the floor with my children. We spent the afternoon engaged in a time-honored pastime of coloring. We got out the "big book", and all the crayons, spread ourselves on the family room floor, and just enjoyed each other as we colored the pictures and chatted about things important to little people.

To be honest, I had almost forgotten how much fun it could be to just sit and color. What made it even more fun, though, was to get a chance to chat with the young artists as we passed crayons around, and talked about which color was the most favorite.

We all seemed to like "blue." "Red" also seemed to be fairly popular. But we also liked the colors of "Purple Pizzazz" and "Razzmatazz." Some of our crayons were well worn. They were short, and some of the paper had been
torn away to expose more of a point. Some of them had fancy names, and others had names that everyone would recognize. Some of the crayons were perfectly formed; their points still sharp and their paper wrapping undamaged. All of the crayons together formed a beautiful kaleidoscope of color on the floor and in the basket where they were kept. Each one had an important part to play in the creation of our masterpieces.

People are like crayons. Some of us have plain names; some of us have exotic sounding names. Some of us are not as pretty as others and our papers may have been worn down a little. Others may be tall and beautiful and perfectly formed.

But, what is important is that we all realize that all people have a place in the kaleidoscope of life. If even one person is overlooked, we may all suffer. We may be less of a well-rounded individual if we neglect to learn and associate with everyone.

The next time you get a chance to color with your children or grandchildren, take a look at the rainbow in the crayon box. I'm sure you'll never look at people again the same way.

As always, we're here for you. Please don't hesitate to reach out should you have any questions or just want to chat.

Sincerely,
