Drexel Forty Under 40
Drexel Magazine has selected 40 alumni under the age of 40 for its annual compendium of alumni to watch. The group includes 10 alumni from the College of Engineering.

When James’ NFL career as a Green Bay Packers Running Back ended, he knew he wanted a forever job. He began building a second career around a master’s program at Drexel while still playing.    
PhD Materials Science and Engineering ’15

Assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zürich, a highly recognized research institution in Switzerland, Maria works in the field of electrochemical energy storage and conversion looking for solutions to satisfy the growing demand for energy.       
Bill Waldron ’90 has been managing Drexel engineering co-op students for 25 of the 30 years he’s been with AT&T Mobility. He told DrexelNow about the keys to success for a rewarding co-op.

Bob Quaglia ’86 has been helping to shape the future of Drexel co-op students, as he once was, as a manager at Woodward McCoach Inc. since 1994.
Responding to COVID-19
Drexel faculty members from Engineering and Biomedical Engineering used 3D printers to help address the shortage of protective equipment for health workers.
Dr. Gail Rosen and PhD student Zhengqiao Zhao propose a way to quickly identify and label mutated versions of the virus that causes COVID-19.
Several faculty members are adapting their research and coursework to respond to the urgent and rapidly evolving nature of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Drexel has awarded Engineering faculty grants for coronavirus work from the COVID-19 Rapid Research & Development Fund.
Faculty Research
Researchers led by Christopher Li study the formation of crystalline materials and have shown that it is now possible to control how crystals grow.
Researchers have found a way to destroy stubbornly resilient toxic compounds, ominously dubbed “ forever chemicals,” that have contaminated drinking water.

Dr. Shannon Capps, Dr. Anup Das and Dr. Joshua Snyder are recipients of CAREER awards , the most prestigious NSF award in support of early-career faculty.

Learning Opportunities
CAEE Continuing Education Course
June 22 (10-week course)
Stormwater Planning in the era of Climate Change, introduces students to new approaches for incorporating climate change considerations into urban stormwater planning and modeling. The class is open to both Drexel students and professional engineers seeking continuing education credits. Students will work directly with pre-selected cities and water utilities who wish to incorporate climate change into their real-world operations.
