Rep. Jennifer Benson is the principal sponsor of H.2810, An Act to Promote Green Infrastructure and Reduce Carbon Emissions. The Benson bill puts a simple price on carbon pollution to capture its immense social and public health costs. It invests $400 to $600 million per year in local clean energy, transportation, resiliency and renewable energy projects. It protects low and middle-income households, rural residents and export-driven manufacturers. It has 105 legislative co-sponsors more than any other energy and climate bill pending on Beacon Hill.
Elected in 2008, Rep. Benson represents the thirty-seventh Middlesex district consisting of Boxborough; Shirley; Harvard, and parts of Lunenburg, Acton and Ayer. She holds a Masters in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.
Roger S. Gottlieb is the author or editor of twenty books and more than 150 articles. He is internationally known for his work on religious environmentalism, spirituality in an age of environmental crisis, environmental ethics, and the role of religion in a democratic society.
Morality and the Environmental Crisis, published this year, is his latest book. Gottlieb's work includes This Sacred Earth: Religion, Nature, Environment, the first comprehensive collection on the topic. A Spirituality of Resistance: Finding a Peaceful Heart and Protecting the Earth won praise from Elie Wiesel and Protestant theologian John Cobb. A Greener Faith: Religious Environmentalism and our Planet's Future was endorsed by the heads of both the Sierra Club and the National Council of Churches.
