Global Ties U.S. National Meeting

IC team members Martin Baier, Ashley Eason and Leslie Grishin attended the Global Ties U.S. 2020 National Meeting in Washington D.C.

Global Ties U.S. is a network of community-based organizations that host professional exchanges through the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), the U.S. State Department’s flagship professional exchange program. Martin Baier, CEO and president of The International Center, serves on the board of Global Ties U.S., and The International Center is the only organization (out of 84 nationwide) administering the program here in Indiana.

During the conference, Martin moderated high-level discussions with board members and Ashley Eason, the vice president of programs and services at The International Center, served as moderator of a breakout session on leadership development that featured panelists from a peer organization in Cincinnati, the State Department, and Cultural Vistas.

The team also heard from IVLP alumni, now in high positions in their respective countries, and visited the Embassies of the EU, Uzbekistan, China, and Bahrain. The conference was capped off with an elegant reception at the State Department and celebration of the achievements of IVLP. This year is the 80 ^th anniversary of IVLP.

The International Center's Annual Meeting

This year's annual meeting is February 5 at Schrott Center for the Arts on Butler University's campus.

The International Center is honored to host Lee Feinstein, dean of the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Study at Indiana University. Feinstein will discuss the promise of today's youth as tomorrow's global leaders with a Q&A session after his presentation.

The Annual Meeting will feature 2019 highlights and look forward to upcoming events in 2020, including the formal announcement of this year's International Citizen of the Year honoree.

Engaging Across Cultures Workshops

The International Center has announced dates for this year's Engaging Across Cultures Workshops

The Engaging Across Cultures half-day workshops are designed for global professionals and feature guest speakers, experts, and staff from The International Center. The purpose of the workshop is to share insights and perspectives on intercultural interactions.

Attendees will get an overview of dimensions of culture, while learning intercultural communication, business etiquette, and protocol tools. Session dates are April 17 and August 21 . The workshops will begin at 8:30 a.m. with networking breakfasts followed by a discussion from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Cost is $125 per person and includes breakfast and workshop materials. The workshops will take place at The International Center.

Meet the 2020 Spring Interns

Each semester, The International Center gives undergraduate and graduate students a variety of opportunities to connect with local and international leaders, improve professional skills, and work in a fast-paced international environment as interns.

This spring, The International Center welcomes ten interns:

Ellie Allen is a sophomore at Butler University majoring in journalism and strategic communication.
Charlie Chen is a senior at Indiana University majoring in accounting and finance.
Chris Ebersole is a graduate from Butler University with a Bachelor's degree in English and a minor in international business.
Brad Herzog is a senior at Butler University majoring in international business with a Spanish minor.
Cortney Kolger is a senior at Butler University majoring in strategic communication and marketing.
Caroline Loughman is a senior at Butler University majoring in economics.
Garv Malhotra is a senior at Butler University majoring in international business.
Kyrie Seying is a graduate student at Ball State getting a Master's degree in public administration and has a Bachelor's degree in history.
Hannah Skaggs is a senior at Indiana University majoring in Spanish and minoring in international studies.
Minxi Wang is a senior at Indiana University majoring in human resource management.
