Dear Saint Rose Families,

Tomorrow Saint Rose Catholic School will turn our gymnasium into a theater as students from grades four through eight take to the stage in Music Man Jr.  Under the direction of Mrs. Schmidt, our students have been working hard to memorize their lines, hit every note, learn their dance steps, coordinate lighting and sound and have all of the props in the right place at the right time.  This is a huge undertaking and commitment.  I appreciate all of the time that Mrs. Schmidt, Mrs. Fahim and all of our teacher, parent and alumni volunteers have dedicated to this production.  I am especially appreciative that so many of our students are brave enough to put themselves out on the stage to share their talents with our community.  I invite you to bring your family to see their hard work take the stage.  Tickets are still available for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Sincerely,
Bryon Borgelt

LENT COLLECTION:   SHOES, SOCKS, MONEY

Last week Wal-Mart had clearance shoes for as low as $5-$7 a pair.  Hundreds of children will be thrilled to receive a new pair of tennis shoes at the Back to School Shoe Event at Saint Louis Helping Hands next August.

Could your family donate 1-2 pairs of new tennis shoes for low-income families in Toledo?   During Lent Saint Rose continues to collect new tennis shoes, new socks, and money (to be used to purchase shoes).

Thank you for your generosity!

Golden Apple   Award 2019
Across the Diocese of Toledo, we are blessed with many outstanding educators who are dedicated to the ministry of making Christ known, loved, and served in our Catholic schools. Through the kind generosity of the  Jack and Rhodora Donahue Family Foundation  of Pittsburgh, the Golden Apple Award was established to honor some of these outstanding individuals. The 2018-2019 school year marks the fourteenth consecutive year that this prestigious award has been presented in the Diocese of Toledo.

Our department receives nominations, and then asks those teachers to submit applications that include the nomination letter, your support letters, an essay, lists of professional development, and their additional work in the areas of service, professionalism, and leadership. The applications are then evaluated with a rubric by a team of department members and former educators and principals to determine each year's winners.

We received a record number of outstanding nominations this year and we are thrilled to offer congratulations to this year's honorees! Join us in congratulating to following teacher-ministers:
Julie Bloomfield St. Mary of the Assumption School, Van Wert
Kim DiehlSt. Mary School, Edgerton
Scott KayNotre Dame Academy, Toledo
Jill LedergerberSt. Catherine Early Childhood Center, Toledo
Elizabeth Munger, St. Rose School, Perrysburg
James Neary St. Francis High School, Toledo
Sarah Rizzo St. Peter School, Mansfield
Beth Savage St. Joan of Arc School, Toledo

Our department is so grateful to all the wonderful nominees, pastors, principals, and nominators who participated in the process for this prestigious award this year. It is an honor to work alongside all of you!

HOLY THURSDAY  PILGRIMAGE TO  SEVEN  CHURCHES

At the end of the  Holy  Thursday liturgy, the Blessed Sacrament is removed from the main tabernacle and "reposed" in a side tabernacle in remembrance of Jesus' arrest.  The Roman Missal states, "The faithful are invited to continue adoration before the Blessed Sacrament for a suitable length of time during the night, according to circumstance."

A Catholic custom in many parts of the world is to visit the altars of repose at  Seven  Churches.  In Rome, this is somewhat easy as there are over 300  churches in the city!

For the past two years, Saint Rose Parishioners gathered after our  Holy  Thursday parish liturgy for a prayerful  pilgrimage to six other  churches to pray at the altars of repose.  We are once again offering this opportunity.  We will pray at the Saint Rose altar of repose and then proceed on a planned route to the other  churches

What a wonderful opportunity for families to pray together and explore the churches in our deanery.     You may drive yourself in your own vehicle or carpooling will be available.  An estimated time of return to Saint Rose is 11:30 pm.  Sometimes participants pray at 3-4 churches and then need to return home.  There is flexibility.  Please contact Anne Brahier at [email protected]  if you are interested in participating.  Thank you.

CREATION CARE TEAM
AFTER SCHOOL
SPRING ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

We are offering the Creation Care Team as an after school enrichment program on Mondays during the spring session. We have lined up guests and activities designed to foster care for our common home.

April 8 - Toledo Grows: "Drop Around the World" This program helps students understand the water cycle. The students get to "become" a water drop and move from station to station creating a bracelet that will tell the story of all the places they visited in the water cycle.

April 15 - 577 Foundation Field Trip: We will visit the 577 Foundation to learn about composting.

April 29 - WW Knight Nature Preserve Field Trip: During our visit to the nature preserve, we will study animals, grab nets and explore the wetland (depending on weather), take a hike looking for birds, and possibly explore the nature playscape.

May 6 - Toledo Grows: "Circle of Life" We will be looking at animal adaptations. Students get create their own creature with it's own special skills and abilities, look at and touch actual animal adaptations, and play games.

May 13 - Perrysburg Clean-up: We will end the year with a neighborhood clean-up.

If your child is interested in taking an active role in caring for the earth,

Please note: Creation Care team is offered at a reduced rate of $35.
The registration deadline been extended until noon on Friday, April 5.

Preschool 4 & Kindergarten Visit the Art Museum

Students visited the Art Museum recently and saw Katherine Gray's (Being) in a Hotshop exhibit. They talked about the colors of a rainbow and saw a video of the artist blowing glass. After the exhibit, students went to the studio and talked about primary colors and how to mix colors to make new colors. The preschoolers then mixed their own paints and created a colorful scene on a mini-canvas.
