St. Michael's Academy
 :

I know we do it every year, but it's always a lot of fun, the "Get Up and Move" activity. It was a great way to end Catholic Schools Week for the students!

Thank you to all of our families who participated in some way during this special week, dedicated to spreading the good news about Catholic schools. At St. Michael's Academy, not only did we have an opportunity to showcase our middle school choir on the Chalice of Salvation, but we also wrote to pastors, collected items for the Grey House, hosted two grandparent/volunteer events, treated our faculty and staff to a special luncheon, came down the home stretch with our Calendar Raffle and tomorrow night, will share camaraderie with other families at our last Catholic Schools Week activity, the Pasta Supper (just to name a few things!).

If there is one thing to be said about Catholic Schools, we really do know how to pitch in and work together! Thank you!!!

So, we're looking forward to a fun Pasta Supper tomorrow night where we will be drawing the names of 29 lucky winners and some lucky Basket Raffle winners as well. Will one of them be you? Hope to see you there!

Peace and God's blessings,

Ms. Ann E. Dougal
Principal

 National Day of Giving

THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Our NCEA Day of Giving was a huge success, thanks to YOU! We would like to extend a special THANK YOU to our generous benefactor who donated a $3,000 Matching Challenge Gift which inspired many to make a gift during the day.

The total amount raised including the $3,000 gift was $8,156. Not only did we surpass our goal of $6,500, we surpassed the total amount raised from last year by over $300.

Thank you for making a gift. Thank you for sharing the information with family and friends. Thank you for your partnership and your commitment to St. Michael's Academy!

We are deeply grateful for your support!

 Catholic Schools Week

WOW...What A Week!

We have had a fantastic Catholic Schools Week here at St. Michael's Academy.  From sharing Mass together, to grandparents events, to making cards for veterans and pastors, to a teacher appreciation luncheon, to a student appreciation day...we had a great week.  And don't forget our favorite "Get Up and Move!" That meant that any time students heard music overhead, they had to jump up and do the dance.

Students especially liked the student appreciation day theme of dressing in your favorite sports team apparel!

 Grandparent Events

Grade 7 Welcomes Grandparents

Our 7th grade students invited their grandparents to join them at Mass this week and for a reception at the school afterwards.

Thank you Fr. Aufiero from Holy Name Parish for celebrating Mass with us. Your homily inspired one and all about the importance of preparation and hard work not only in school but as a crucial ingredient in life as well.

We also thank Mrs. Laurie Coughlin who shared with us how grateful she is for the difference that a St. Michael's Academy education has made in the lives of her  granddaughters.

 Grandparent Event

Warm Winter Wishes

Our 2nd grade students welcomed their grandparents this week along with the many volunteers who give their time and talents to St. Michael's Academy. The students serenaded their audience with several musical numbers and even danced the "Alley Cat!"

We thank retired Judge Brian McDonald for speaking on behalf of his grandchildren and the fantastic education they are receiving at St. Michael's Academy.

 Breakfast and Lunch Menus

Springfield Public Schools
 "Meal Viewer"

*Beginning February 1st*

The Springfield Public Schools is introducing the "Meal Viewer" where you can now go to view the breakfast and lunch menus. A copy of the menus will no longer be going home with students (really this time) and will only be available through this site.

To access the menus, please go to schools.mealviewer.com or download the app on your mobile device.  You will be asked to create a login and input any allergies your child might have. Search Springfield and find St. Michael's Academy and you will then be directed to the menus.  You can bookmark the site to make it easier for future access.

The link will also be located on the St. Michael's Academy website under the student life section.  Once you log in, subsequent visits should take you right to the St. Michael's Academy menus.

 Calendar  Raffle

Calendar Raffle Winners!

The Calendar Raffle winners will be drawn at the Pasta Supper tomorrow.  Stay tuned for a listing of the winners in next week's Messenger!

 Safety Alert

PARKING LOT SAFETY ALERT
PLEASE READ!!!

This alert was posted in last week's Messenger and people continue to ignore the parking lot safety rules.

Parents should be dropping off their child(ren) at the designated area on Wheeler Avenue where we have teachers on duty to help them out of the car. Cars SHOULD NOT be pulling through the parking lot, parking in the lot and getting out of their vehicles (unless they have an appointment or business in the school) or pulling through the playground area (beyond the orange cones) to drop off in front of the side door.  It also takes away parking spots for staff in an already crowded lot.

We have witnessed several close calls as people are parking, stopping and maneuvering around other vehicles. This makes it extremely dangerous for people walking through the lot.  If children are dressed appropriately for winter, it should not be a problem to walk the short distance from the drop off area into the school.

Our policies are put in place in order to keep everyone safe. Please help us maintain our safety.

Food For Thought

Prayer Corner

St. Michael the Arch angel, pray for us!

We pray for all St. Michael's Academy students, families, faculty, and staff, and their special intentions:

Richard and Melanie Sitnik

And we pray for all of our recently departed.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
