Luke T. '20 meets with College Counselor Katrina Tijerina to talk about his college plans. Beyond a dedicated college counselor, we also prepare students for the college process with the College Overview class, test prep offerings, an annual college fair, and a multitude of college rep visits with informational interviews.

3rd and 5th Dessert Theatre: This Friday, January 31
Please join us on Friday, January, 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. the Louisa Performing Arts Center to support our young thespians! Free and open to the public.
3rd Grade Performance:
Dive into adventure! When Ms. Martin's class investigates the undersea kingdom of Atlantis, they'll cross paths with silly pirates, sea dragons and a French philosopher. Will the lost city be found? What's hiding in the royal vault? Follow the clues and find out in The Mystery of Atlantis!
5th Grade Performance:
Be careful what you wish for! In the 5th grade's Aladdin, a desert kingdom comes to life before your eyes. Narrated by Yahoo and his pet Snake, watch as the luck of a poor, lazy boy from the streets changes by a whimsical genie (or two!). However, El Kashid, a villainous magician, as well as the Sultan's Vizier and son, try to get in the way of what Aladdin truly wants, the Princess. Families will enjoy a night of magic, music and mischief.

Why do we do Dessert Theatre?
The discipline of Theatre enables a child to become more in tune with his/her own unique attributes and gifts. Children are free to identify and solve problems within the rehearsal process, promoting their intellectual curiosity. They grow in their ability to express ideas clearly, helping to build confidence in their own communication skills. Theatre is a truly collaborative art form where children learn to be responsible for themselves and others. This social cooperation reinforces and motivates positive behavior, building personal integrity. The very process of developing a character challenges the child to see the world from a different point of view and teaches him/her how to bring intellect and emotion together. Plus, the art of presenting theatre engages whole minds through the genuine application of literacy and the integration of knowledge across the curriculum.

Head of School Finalists Selected
We recently welcomed seven semifinalists to campus for our Head of School search. Semifinalists took student-led tours of our campus, met with the administrative leadership team and the advisory committee, and completed a two-hour interview process with the Head of School Search Committee. Please join us for a viewing of the documentary Screenagers NEXT CHAPTER: Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience. The film examines the science behind the emotional challenges of teenagers, the interplay of social media, and most importantly, what can be done in our schools and homes to help teens build crucial skills to navigate stress, anxiety, and depression in our digital age. The film even showcases the positive impact of
Yale's RULER program, which is utilized by CSS as part of our social and emotional learning toolkit.

Gala & Auction Committee Announces This Year's Theme!
This week the committee rolled out details for the Gala & Auction! Swing into the historic hall for a swell time at Penrose Library's Knights of Columbus Hall. Dressed in spiffy attire, we will bring victory and moxie to the school's largest fundraising event. We can do it! From dapper duds and vintage cocktail dresses to workwear overalls, a-line skirts, suspenders, and wide ties. Be foxy! 1940s iconic fashions encouraged but not necessary. Bring your dancing shoes and moves as we enjoy live jazz and swing music performed by

AP Psychology Students Meet with 1st Graders for Research
Students in Upper School AP Psychology class met with 1st graders today to conduct research on Swiss biologist and psychologist Jean Piaget's theory of the stages of cognitive development, explaining how a child's mind processes new information encountered. AP students worked in small groups to administer activities for 1st graders to complete in order to assess their cognitive abilities relative to their age - such as their ability to understand the conservation of volume, which is understanding that something stays the same in quantity even though its appearance changes, or object permanence, which is the understanding that objects continue to exist even when they cannot be seen, heard, touched, smelled or sensed in any way. AP students practiced research planning, methodology, data collection and
analysis, and communication. And they got to see these psychological principles in action! Earlier this week, AP students met with prekindergarten for the same research.

National Honor Society Welcomes New Members
The Ursa Major chapter of the National Honor Society recently welcomed 12 new members: Lydia M. '21, Heather H. '21, Elise L. '21, Sarina M. '20, Zoe B. '21, Jules T. '21, Ben M. '21, Dane C. '21, Aaron Y. '21, Orlando M. '21, Aadi N. '21, and Alex S. '21 (absent). Members are looking forward to working together in the largest NHS membership in CSS history, with 35 members! There are several upcoming opportunities for building the group's Character, Leadership, and Scholarship, in addition to Service (the guiding tenets of NHS).
