July 15 | 2021
The ballots have been counted and we now have the results for the DAL election. Welcome back to the board George Eigenhauser, Carol Krzanowski, and Melanie Morgan. Welcome newly elected DAL members Mark Hannon and Annette Wilson, both of whom have prior service to CFA as board members. Thank you to Brian Moser for your service to the CFA Board these past two years. Thank you to Cyndy Byrd for your service this past year serving my vacated DAL seat when the member clubs voted me to the role of CFA President.

Thanks to the hard work that Cyndy did during this past year, we now have an updated set of bylaws which comply with the New York not-for-profit law. As most of you are aware, we had two constitutional amendments which had to be passed in order for CFA to be in compliance with NY NPC law. The board presented five additional amendments that were also passed, and now our constitution goes by a new name: bylaws.

Additionally, the member clubs passed the updated certificate of incorporation!

COVID-19 is still an issue, but as so many people are fully vaccinated, the reporting of cases has dropped drastically! Thanks to all that have participated in the vaccination programs across the USA.

The CFA COVID-19 guidelines were updated and now clubs are required to comply with local, state, national, etc. guidelines. These guidelines are in line with the recommendations set at the CDC. Thanks to Rich Mastin and George Eigenhauser for heading up our COVID Advisory Committee. And a special thank you to Dr. Marilee Griswold for your expert guidance.

Many clubs are now planning shows for this show season. Good luck to everyone who supports CFA and our clubs. We cannot do it without you!

You did it!

The CFA Virtual Annual is over, a distant memory for many, and you witnessed and you were a part of history in the making.

Many of you know I do not have human children, only cat kids. However I was as proud as any parent could be when the Annual Meeting was called to order by President Darrell Newkirk and all delegates had participated in the roll call, logged into the Zoom meeting, a quorum was met and we were all ready to get on with business. The months of practice sessions and learning paid off. Amendments and resolutions were discussed and voted on, service awards were announced, and we were reminded of those missing in the memorial slide show created by Cheryl Coleman.
A big thank you to the Virtual Annual Committee who met many times to discuss various aspects of the Annual and particularly to the very capable sub-set of committee members who formed the team who were there for every virtual practice session for delegates and onsite at the Central Office the week of the Annual Meeting: Cathy Dunham, Shelly Borawski, James Simbro and Amber Goodright. Darrell Newkirk and Rachel Anger were onsite for the board and Annual meetings and we all worked together to make the virtual Annual a good experience for all.

The CFA Board voted at the Sunday board meeting after the Annual to return $30 of the $40 delegate fee to clubs who participated in the Annual Meeting. All of these rebates have been processed to the original payor using the same method of payment (credit card, PayPal or check). The mailing and receipt of checks takes a little longer and all rebates should be received within the next week or two.

JA Spotlight Award - 2021

It was no surprise to me when my nominating committee decided that Wain Harding should be given the the 2021 Judges Spotlight Award.

Wain has been in the judging program since 1981. Under his cattery name Bastis, he at first showed for 7 years, wrote the standard for the Egyptian Mau, which had many similarities to his much loved breed the Abyssinians. The Maus received championship status in 1977.
Under the Bastis cattery name, Wain bred Egyptian Maus, Abyssinians, and Persians.  He co-bred a litter of Exotics with Mark Hannon under the cattery name Taki. It was the only litter bred, shown and raised under that cattery name.

He had trained many, many new judges, served as the International Chair for Asia, wrote a standard for a new breed and so many more contributions to CFA.
He spent his childhood in Charlottesville, Virginia, attended Berkeley, returned home for a few years, and finally returned to Berkeley where he began work as an artist and art eestorer.

Our Judges Association Spotlight Award is given the Wain Harding, for his years of service to CFA.

CFA Show Rules
Monte Phillips, Chair

The board instituted a new requirement for grands that reduces the points required for cats showing in the international division outside of China. Specifically, for those cats, 75 points are required for the grand championship, and 25 points are required for the grand premiership. Also, only three qualifying rings under two judges are required for the champion/premier title. These changes only apply to the current (2021-2022) show season.

Some folks fancy exhibiting, some fancy breeding and some are just here to see and snuggle cats. Regardless of how or why a fancier enters our world, we aim to provide educational content that attracts and supports their CFA journey.

We're already planning on content for our October issue! Because this issue comes out in autumn, we often look at cats in "the autumn of their lives." This year, we want to tell the stories of cats who have achieved titles and recognition at a "less than young" age. Call them Veterans, call them "aged to perfection" - we want to know about them! Send your stories to Ann Strople.

Tax Tips with George Eigenhauser

The new American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 includes provisions allowing taxpayers who qualify for the federal child tax credit to begin receiving monthly payments starting in July 2021. The Act temporarily expands the child tax credit from $2000 per child to up to $3,600 per child. The benefits gradually diminish for single filers earning more than $75,000 per year (or married couples making more than $150,000). Unlike a tax deduction that only reduces taxable income (indirectly reducing tax), tax credits may provide dollar-for-dollar reduction of the money you owe in taxes. Some credits may even exceed taxes due, resulting in refunds. Half of the child tax credit benefit will be sent out to eligible households in monthly payments from July through December 2021. The second half of the credit may be claimed on your 2021 tax return (filed in 2022). Monthly payments of up to $300 per child will begin shortly, based on your prior tax filings. If you haven't filed a tax return with the IRS recently their web site has a non-filer sign-up tool to enroll. For more information about the Advance Child Tax Credit Payments in 2021 please visit:

Greetings from Region 3. Well, the first Virtual Annual Meeting has come and gone and I must say it went much smoother than many expected. Many Region 3 folks worked hard over the past couple of years in preparing to host this Annual live and in person and for all those involved we are very grateful. We still have some of the fund-raising merchandise available so for any that are interested, please contact Steve McCullough, Regional Director or Paula Noble, Regional Secretary or Sheryl Zink, Regional Treasurer for information on purchasing any of the available merchandise. We have t-shirts in three colors (limited sizes in the navy blue and blackberry colors), commemorative pins, cookbooks, masks and wristbands.

As we move forward into this new season, we’re hoping the show schedule continues to get busier. Please be aware of restrictions in different parts of the country and be cautious as things continue to change while we progress out of this pandemic environment.

Looking forward to seeing you all in the show halls soon!!

July 3-4, 2021
Lebanon, PA

This club had their annual show planned on their traditional date the first weekend of June, 2020. The show was cancelled, as were all shows around that time, due to COVID-19 restrictions. They also cancelled their show for the same weekend in 2021.
As states and communities started opening up in the Spring of 2021, the club took another look at holding a show. There were no CFA shows scheduled for the July 4th weekend so the club considered that date. Finding an affordable show hall was one of their chief concerns. They located a hall that met their needs, one that has been used by several clubs in the past, but it was in another region. This is a Southern Region club who has for decades used a hall in suburban Baltimore.
Their new location was in Lebanon PA, about 100 miles from their traditional location but in the North Atlantic Region. Approvals were obtained and the show proceeded. The final decision to hold the show was made in May so there was not much time to pull this show together. The club opted to use a 6x6 format and the same judges contracted for their cancelled show. The show was run by Dave & Shirley Peet, Sara Sieffert and Claire & Bob Dubit. While the show did not fill, it had an average of 150 entries which enabled the club to cover its costs. While there were some campaigners present, for most of the exhibitors this was their first or second show this season. The atmosphere at the show was very upbeat as the exhibitors were excited to be back in a show hall after such a long absence.
A feature at this show was a Super Raffle coordinated by Sarah and Shirley. They sold tickets in advance of the show for a special low price of 100 tickets for $35. They raised several thousand dollars and half the tickets were sold in advance of the show. The raffle was a big success.

Yokohama Bay Cat fanciers had show in Tokyo on 12th June.

Japan Shaded Fanciers had show in Tokyo on 27th June. Because of the COVID-19 rule from both the government and CFA, both of show had not so many entries. However, exhibitors safely enjoyed show as usual.
Allbreed judge Teruko Arai, show manager of this show, has been painting lots of cats as her hobby. Her work was being displayed in the 48th Nissyou Ten by Nihon Hyosyo Art Association. She painted the picture of two women with lovely cat and won honorable mention. Congratulations!!
In Japan we have the rainy season for almost one month, from the middle of June to the middle of July. During the rainy season, we can see the very beautiful flower “Ajisai” everywhere. (Ajisai means hydrangea.)

We will have Olympic game opening ceremony soon. I hope it will be fine day.

Cat fanciers all over Europe joined in to watch or participate in the CFA virtual annual meeting. Representatives of the three CFA clubs in Finland all had “the jabs” and met in the wonderful outdoor covered patio at the home of Pauli Huhtaniemi and Marika Lahti. Of course food had to be involved and delicious hamburgers were cooked to perfection by the R9 Regional Director, plus the usual accompaniments.
Though the meeting lasted until around 2 AM Saturday morning Finnish time, it was still very light for us.
