2021 Community Organizing Grant Partners
Your support of PDF helps to power social justice organizing, resourcing the grassroots organizations who are making strides toward justice in their communities. Thanks to the generous support of individuals like you, PDF continues to be a leading, go-to philanthropic partner for community organizing, providing grants, training and other important resources.
Through the 2021 Community Organizing Grant cycle, PDF issued over $125,000 in grants to 27 organizations working on a wide range of issue areas, like Women Against Mass Incarceration, the San Francisco Taxi Workers Alliance, and La Cana in Mexico City.

Some of our recent grant partners include the Apache Language Consortium, a collective of Apache speakers, schools, and educators that are working to preserve the Arizona Apache language to ensure they can pass it on to future generations. ALC dedicates itself to restoring the threatened language and documenting the benefits of language recovery to the indigenous Apache community and individuals.

Compañeros Inmigrantes de las Montañas en Acción (CIMA) connects, strengthens and organizes communities to take action for immigrants’ rights in Western North Carolina. CIMA strives for inclusive communities with justice, freedom, and equality for all.

The Youth Activism Project (MD), trains teen activists and incubates sustainable organizing campaigns primarily led by BIPOC students. One of their campaigns is the Montgomery County-based Students Toward Equitable Public Schools, aimed at promoting a culture of diverse, equitable learning so that all students can reap the benefits of a world-class education, regardless of their race or socioeconomic status.

Celebrating Pride Month and LGBTQ+ Organizing
This Pride Month, we want to uplift some of our 2021 Community Organizing Grant partners who are organizing for justice and liberation for the LGBTQ+ community in urban and rural communities alike.

NNLB United is a New York City-based collective of intergenerational, intersectional Black women and LGBTQ+ folks who are dedicated to Black liberation, the decriminalization of poverty, reparations, and an emphasis on civic participation and organizing in their community.

API Equality - Los Angeles builds power in the Asian and Pacific Islander community to achieve LGBTQ+ equality and racial and social justice. API Equality is a key member of a number of policy and advocacy coalitions organized to hold local leaders accountable, working to dismantle systems of oppression through community outreach and education.

LGBTQ+ organizing looks different in rural communities, and 2021 grant partner Out in the Open is building a multi-issue social justice movement of rural LGBTQ+ people in the greater southern Vermont area. In response to COVID-19 and health disparities experienced by LGBTQ+ people, Out in the Open launched the Rural Trans and Queer Health Justice Initiative in order to make medical resources safe and accessible for their community.

Spencer Pride, an LGBTQ+ empowerment organization in rural Indiana, is a participant in PDF's three-year capacity-building program, The Sustainability Project. After the first year, organizers with Spencer Pride said, "The training helped us not only consider how to be more effective with individual fundraising efforts but also how to be more strategic in soliciting donors & planning larger fundraising efforts."

Fiscal Sponsorship is a partnership model in which PDF, a public foundation, extends our 501(c)(3) non-profit status to charitable projects and organizations, accepts and administers tax-deductible donations on their behalf, and provides an administrative “home” with tailored technical assistance.
