MUSKOKA WHARF
REVITALIZATION PROJECT
Project Updates - January 2020
Draft Plan

A Wharf Revitalization Plan was developed over the past two months. The plan is the result of extensive consultation, data analysis, and best practices. We are now in the second phase of consultation as we review this draft plan with key stakeholders.

The plan is scheduled to be presented at an upcoming Council meeting this spring. Stay tuned for more details!
First Look...

Here are some of the strengths of the Muskoka Wharf identified during consultations as part of a SWOT analysis:
  • Natural beauty (water, sunsets, rock outcroppings)
  • Muskoka Steamships & Discovery Centre
  • History and heritage
  • Geographic location (proximity to Downtown, Hwy 169 and GTA)
  • Events
  • Boardwalk and trails
  • High occupancy rate in buildings
Wharf Fun Facts!

Rail transportation was extended to Gravenhurst in 1875. It included a spur line which ran to the wharf where it connected train service with waiting steamships. The station shown here was built in 1896.

Now, from this location near the public boat launch, you can head to the Peninsula Trail to take in the breathtaking views of Lake Muskoka or follow the former rail line through forested terrain to connect to Downtown Gravenhurst!
