Greetings!

Welcome to the April issue of Insights. Spring has sprung, and the azaleas are beautiful! We hope you enjoy reading about our new initiative and all of the changes at GHCF; we welcome your feedback on those or any of the articles in this issue.

ARTICLE ROUNDUP

Today, one in five U.S. children grows up in poverty. That's 14 million kids who simply do not get a fair chance at a bright future, due to lack of access to resources (Reading time: 3 minutes).

See this list of questions that families should ask when first exploring the possibility of a common philanthropic project (Reading time: 8 minutes).
THE LEGACY PROJECT

As part of GHCF's new strategic plan, we have made a commitment to reach out to our donors to understand their plans for their funds and giving goals, and how we can better serve them. To that end, we have launched The Legacy Project, available to donors to help put a simple plan in place for your fund--now and for the future. Contact Jennifer Touchet to get started.
NEW REGIONAL INITIATIVE

Greater Houston Community Foundation, in partnership with the Kinder Institute for Urban Research, will create a central resource for long-range data and trends on a broad range of issues affecting people in our region. Understanding Houston entails building a new, highly interactive website for anyone interested in amplifying philanthropic impact in the Greater Houston area. We will unveil this strategic initiative at a luncheon on November 21. Stay tuned for details! Contact Diana Zarzuelo for more information.
CAUSAL EFFECTS OF ARTS EDUCATION EXPERIENCES

Arts Access Initiative, a supported organization at GHCF, provided experimental evidence in a report released by Rice University’s Houston Education Research Consortium. The report provides data on the experiences benefiting students in terms of compassion, reductions in disciplinary issues, and more. You can learn about this study by reading this brief. For those wishing to take a deeper dive, you can access the full report here.
