Happy November everyone!

November is often a time related to giving thanks, so I would like to start my message with just that, THANK YOU.

Thank you for your time, talents and treasures. Thank you for advocating for ALL Children. Thank you for your passion, dedication and striving to make every child's potential a reality.

a·dapt·a·ble

able to adjust to new conditions.
able to be modified for a new use or purpose

I chose adaptable as my word this month because that is what all of us have had to become. For some this was easy, for other others not so much. Each of us is different and that is what makes us unique. Different is not better or worse, it is just that, different. Our differences make us better, stronger and diverse, let's remember to embrace them.

We know this year is not the same and we are all learning new and different ways to do many things: school, work, PTA, and life in general. Please remember that you are not alone and we are here for you. Take the time you need for yourself and apply self-care.

Thank you for being adaptable. We are all feeling the struggle of this year being so different. However, from the struggle, comes new thinking, new ideas and a new way to persevere.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Implementing diversity, equity & inclusion efforts is an important step in today’s world. Where does one begin? What do you do? There may be many questions that don’t have easy answers but asking them is critical. Start with YOU! Examine your views and definitions of what diversity, equity & inclusion are. Do some research. Analyze your own biases & develop a conscious plan to reduce them. Evaluate yourself. Then, you can gather tools to help you start honest conversations with those around you, as you begin the process of learning and reflection. There really is no start and finish line to diversity, equity & Inclusion, but there is a commitment to creating change & growth. Only good things can come from that!
Membership Matters...
From National PTA: TWO LOCAL PTA MEMBERSHIP TRAININGS: Two 15-minute recorded webinars designed for local units navigating PTAing in a virtual world. The Virtual Membership campaign mini-webinar covers making it easy to join online, making the case that PTA is worth it, and forming an effective ask. The Effective and Engaging Virtual Meetings webinar differentiates meetings from other events, and provides suggestions to streamline meetings, and convey the value of member participation. To access both webinars, leaders must be signed into the PTA Kit. They are also linked to the new Lead a Virtual PTA webpage. Help spread the word about the new membership focused resources – post on your social media, on your websites, add to your virtual local PTA trainings, and more. Look for additional short trainings to come soon.
Awards Application Tips!
5.) Read the directions. Make sure that you look at ALL the directions, including font size, maximum number of words allowed, and deadline.
4.) Include flyers and other materials that you used to market the program.
3.) Include pictures. Just remember that you either need a release or the easiest way is just getting the backs of kids heads.
2.) Write up your application as soon as your program or event happens. It’s so much easier to apply when an event is fresh in your mind.
And the NUMBER 1 tip:   APPLY, APPLY, APPLY!!!!

Grants!
Hello PTA Leaders, we are proud to share these grant opportunities with you, and hope that these will help you to support the families at your schools during this time. Grants are posted on our website at https://floridapta.org/grant-opportunities/.  Please check back regularly for new updates, and feel free to share any new grants you come across that could benefit local units by emailing them to us at [email protected].

The following are some tips when applying for grants:
  1. Be very specific and give details as to the need for the grant.
  2. Differentiate yourself – make your application stand out e.g. research to see what projects have been funded previously by the organization/foundation.
  3. Target a specific project for your grant proposal.
  4. Focus more on solutions rather than problems when writing your grant application.
  5. Double check your budget before submitting. Make sure it makes sense, and that it is balanced.
  6. Have someone objective review it prior to sending it off.
  7. Do not send any unnecessary attachments.
  8. Make sure to include everything that has been requested.

Good luck as you go after those grants!

Veteran's Day - November 11th
"Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day. Memorial Day occurs in May and is a time to remember those who gave their lives for our country, particularly in battle or from wounds they suffered in battle. Veterans Day honors all of those who have served the country in war or peace — dead or alive — although it’s largely intended to thank living veterans for their sacrifices."
