Young Farmers Update
Young Farmers is a club that is associated with the MJC Agriculture Department. It is for all students that are currently enrolled at MJC. It is open to all students, whether they are an Ag major or not. Young Farmers will be having their membership drive from 9/9 – 9/13. Each member is $10 which covers both the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters.

Open Classes for Fall Semester
Ag Department Giveaways | Shout-Out Board!
We're hosting a drawing! In the Agriculture Building on East Campus look for the MJC Shout-Out board. All you have to do is write a compliment or "shout-out" for a staff member, teacher, or student. The board is right in front of staff row (by the dean's office). When you pin your note on the board make sure to add your name and email to the back of the note and you will be entered into the drawing. We will be giving away gift cards, a bag, and MJC supplies! Make sure to give that Shout-Out!
INDUSTRY TOURS
MJC Ag & Environmental Science department was able to provide an experience most students would never have the chance to get. Twenty-six students traveled the state of California in three days learning about different careers in agriculture. They were able to learn about opportunities most wouldn't think are available within the agriculture industry.

Agriculture Business student, Selina Lopes, stated " It was exciting to see these types of careers I want to have someday in action; the people administering these tours had valuable insight as to how to enter their profession . " We are excited to the 2020 tour coming up! To read more on the trip click the link below!

IVERT Apprenticeship Program
Building off of an existing dual-certificate Heavy Equipment program at Modesto Junior College that has operated over the last decade, the Yosemite Community College District is developing a new Industrial Vehicle and Equipment Repair Technician (IVERT) apprenticeship program that will provide trained workers to industries across San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Tuolumne, and Merced counties.

Diamond Foods Award
The Beckwith Instructional Laboratory and School Farm is excited to share with everyone that Modesto Junior College Ag Trust has been named the Vina Walnut Variety Champion for the Northern San Joaquin Valley growing region for our 2018 crop.  Diamond's Top Quality Awards are presented annually on a regional basis to producers of each area's primary varieties. Honorees are selected at the account level and are determined by the highest combined total of quality attributes such as % Edible Yield, RLI score, low off-grade, and jumbo size. (We have received this award three times previously for the Tulare Walnut Variety) This would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of staff and our 2018 crops interns Riley Waterman and Derick Rios.
