The Office of Global Activities (OGA) is dedicated to connecting MSW students to international social work opportunities through  funding special programs , academic resources, internationalized curriculum, and  arranging faculty and student exchanges  at partner institutions.
Spotlight of the Week
A Better World: A photo taken by Liz Mojica, MSW alum
Global Lens: Social Work Reflective Photo Exhibition  is an event for students and alumni in the School of Social Work to reflect on their foreigner identity through photography and narratives of their time abroad. This is a way for students and alumni to express, compare, and contrast their experience in a new place, and to raise awareness of international students experiences on the UM campus and in the US. Students with US citizenship as well as international students are encouraged to reflect and share their experience in cross-national and cross-cultural settings through photos and short stories.
Professional Opportunities

Deadline: Friday, January 31
Brief Description: Accepted students will spend eight weeks during the summer learning tools for public communication, visiting the public humanities ecosystem in Michigan, exploring why collaboration and public engagement matters to the humanities, and developing connections to implement their new knowledge and shared understanding in their specific projects that integrate research and public engagement. Stipend is $8,000.
Special Notes: This is an opportunity for 20-month students as the workshop dates are between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays between May 8 and June 26, 2020.

Deadline: Friday, January 31
Brief Description: Achintya Saxena , a student at the Ross School of Business and organizer of the CK Prahalad Grand Challenge, is looking for students interested in using their voice to create an innovative and impactful change in the world. All teams should have up to four members and can win cash prizes totaling up to $8000.
Grant Opportunities

The OGA Event Grant is calling for submissions for Winter 2020. The grant offers up to $125 for School of Social Work students to propose and plan an event with a global theme.

Deadline: Friday, January 31
Brief Description: This opportunity provides financial and logistical support of $5,500 to fellowships focused broadly on addressing, evaluating, or improving global labor standards and monitoring.

Deadline: Monday, February 3 @ 5 pm EST
Brief Description: This Award was established in 2006 to help meet the growing needs of U-M MSW students who pursue national and global field experiences and/or global independent study projects. 
Special Note: Applicant must be admitted into a SSW approved national or global field placement site or a global independent study project for which they are seeking support.

Deadline: Friday, February 14 @ 5 pm EST
Brief Description: CEW+ Fellowships support student travel and research. Awards vary in amount based on proposal merit, budget, and need.  Most CEW+ Fellowships range between $2,000 - $5,000.

Deadline: Saturday, February 15
Brief Description: This opportunity supports University of Michigan students, regardless of citizenship, who are enrolled in a degree program and wish to participate in internships or conduct research abroad. Award amounts are up to $5,000. 

Deadline: Saturday, February 15
Brief Description: This Award provides up to $2,500 funding for selected students to take part in a community service project or civic participation anywhere in the world.
Special Note: Applicants must be pursuing a project related to the field of public health.

Deadline: mid-February
Brief Description: Up to $1,000 of grant funding available for 10 students in the School of Social Work who are presenting at the Joint World Conference on Social Work Education and Social   Development, the IFSW Global Social Work Conference, or the International Conference on Sustainable Development. 
Special Note: Applicants must submit an abstract to a global conference and are accepted to present.

Brief Description: Queer students will share their experiences living, traveling and/or working abroad. Learn about how their identities impacted their experience, as well as helpful resources to plan your own experience abroad.

Brief Description: Join International House Ann Arbor for an overview of and conversation about elections and primaries in the US. This event will also share information about the Iowa Caucuses and provide an opportunity to watch the results come in.

Brief Description: The Statement of Purpose is the heart and soul of a campus funding application and can make or break your application. Join this interactive workshop for an opportunity to get feedback on your personal statement through a guided peer review session. Cookies and coffee provided.

Brief Description: This is an opportunity to engage with other leaders transforming global development, explore new and different ideas in collaborative development, and network and connect with potential global development partners. 
Special Note: OGA does not have funding available for students attending this conference.
